Sweet merciful FUCK. That may be the single most shortsighted legal proceeding I've ever heard of, and that includes vice President Biden's "death to due process" Title IX reforms. If that goes through, you'd either need government-approved forms of psychotherapy, or require people to somehow magically predict what will or won't work.

Did you listen to any of the trial? His she didn't come off very well. I mean I would have agreed until I heard her. I thought it was odd that his parents were charged as well. She's facing 15 years. For each count for a total of 60 years. But because this is a precedence I bet she doesn't get much if any time. I think this is mote a statement to parents shirking their responsibility.

I kind of agree. As I told another person. I think this is more of statement to deter this from happening again. That parents will be held responsible for their child's violent acts, so get them the help they need.

Yes, I agree. 60 years seems successive. She did not pull the trigger and she did not plan the killings. Arguably she probably didn't even foresee them. I think a few years at most would be sufficient to make the point.

Yes she did a lot wrong. She bought him a gun. She didn't secure it properly. She essentially neglected his mental health needs when she knew about them. The result was that he killed quite a few people. This was basically child neglect on steroids.

He was a very sick child and not necessarily a piece of shit. On the other hand, she was a piece of shit for ignoring his condition and not obtaining medical care for him when he desperately needed it.

@msc545 ah. Okay well I wouldn't say she should be charged with manslaughter but with child neglect, child abandonment, abuse. She didn't inadvertently kill anyone though her actions lead to her child killing people that is not a manslaughter charge. Though I do admit I am not well enough educated in how the legal system works outside of my field so I suppose it is possible she could be accused of it.

Yes, I think maybe she was overcharged in this, but then again it was a horrible incident so it's not unexpected that this would happen. I'm not a legal expert either so I have no idea whether or not the charge is really were overdone or not.
