m +1 ystill not an invasion per se though... Russia has been long infiltrated in those regions, and a whole of residents have been both neglected and looking for autonomy for a long while, a decade or so
this region (Donbas region) in particular has not been under the control of Ukraine for a while, and this is the other part of the story that not so many in here mention or talk about, a lot of Ukrainian people identify themselves as Russians and around 30% of them have Russian as their language (specific to the Donbas region that percentage is as high as 70%)
this is mostly in the East and South of the country... and this is what Biden referred to as "not a big deal" now, if Putin decided to send actual and official army troops to Centre or West of Ukraine now that... would be a major step that could lead to an escalation
simply put... if the people in the region welcome the Russian forces (officials ones and not official) with open arms because many of them identify themselves as Russian that's not much of an invasion18 Reply- +1 y
" if the people in the region welcome the Russian forces (officials ones and not official) with open arms because many of them identify themselves as Russian that's not much of an invasion"
they aren't thats propoganda - +1 y
so... the separatists that went to war in 2014 against the Ukraine government.. does not exist?
the thousands of people that died, did not actually die?
did all the people the fled the region trying to escape these pro-Russian paramilitary forces do not actually exist... ?
did the Crimea region was not controlled by Russia in 2014 because of these pro-Russian separatists that actually welcomed the Russian forces with open arms and celebrated with them without absolute no intervention from the US or other European nations... was all of that fake
or what exactly do you mean by propaganda? - +1 y
"so... the separatists that went to war in 2014 against the Ukraine government.. does not exist? "
They were fully backed and supppoted by the Russian government at the time. www.wgal.com/.../39165600#
fact of the matter is most ukrainians support NATO and dislike Russia
www.rferl.org/.../28089250.html
not exactly 'open arms' - +1 y
yes, the separatists were backed and supported by Russia... because they were pro-Russia, there's no discussion there
and yes... most of Ukrainians in Ukraine do not want Russia, but that is across the country... and I clearly made a distinction between the actual Donbas region, which is full of separatists, Russian speaking natives and also held a (questionable) referendum in which 90% voted for independence from Ukraine and towards support for Russia
what you fail to see in here is that... I am not speaking of Ukraine as a nation, I do refer to the Donbas region... as a region
big difference right there, it makes all the difference
in fact, in 2017... the Ukrainian president barred this region from trade with the rest of the country... and this because of the same reasons I pointed out before
so I ask you again, what exactly is propaganda in here... I am only doing a recount of things that already happened, and these were actions... not politicians giving speeches - +1 y
So what you think Russia will just sop in the Dunbas region? lol
surely you jest... - +1 y
that is yet to be seen
the rest of Ukraine has barely or zero Russian influence, if Putin decides to step into the West or the capital that is going to cost a lot more
is Putin actually going to do it? well... will all his oligarchs agree to fund this war? I really doubt that, because is not going to be cheap... and more than that, it won't look good for Biden or Europe
my guess which could very well be wrong... is that they will not risk to lose both lives of the innocent and a whole lot of money and if he actually does it... it would be only because the USA and Europe will allow that to happen, and that's something else I really doubt
but we'll see, time will tell - +1 y
@Кураж and to address your comment, yes... infiltration and disinformation are big part of Putin's scheme, but none of this magnitude would be possible without the complicit support from a considerable part of the native population... 12 million of Russian speakers in Ukraine is no joke, that's a whole lot of people to be just agents of Russia
and still... none of what you have brought up contradicts the points that already happened and I merely pointed out
I still don't see how actual history can be considered propaganda

It's a tragedy.
But the bright side of things is that Putin likely ensured his own downfall with this decision.
It's narcissistic rampage against a nation of 40 million people that will be supported by major foreign actors for likely another decade during the lowest point of Putin's popularity.
It's going to cost Russia dearly in terms of lives and economy, and they won't gain anything of value from it.
It makes virtually no sense outside of feeding Putin's deluded pride, so I'm curious how the Russian people are going to take it.21 Reply- +1 y
both the Russian people... and the also the oligarchs that pay the salaries for their army
second ones are the ones I see it more difficult to get convinced " how about if we just all march onto a cliff"
I just don't see it likely... if Putin does actually invades the rest of Ukraine and takes over Kiev... it will be only because of both Biden and Europe allowing him to do so
Men will be boys, the difference is the price of their toys. That's Putin! He appears that he fell in love with his Army men he used to play with when he was a young boy, only now he is older and his play Army men are real men. Please tell me Putin isn't putting lives in danger to reclaim some land.

I think it's a test of the West and will lead to more of the same all over. This administration has shown the world that we will sit by and write strongly opinionated letters and tweets about it, but won't do anything to physically stop them. I see China making the next move.

Yep, another screw up from the President who claims to be an expert on foreign policy.

umm what should we do about it? we've sent ukranians arms and we are all fully back by every other major ally in the world.

@Wise4myage what would you have him do?

He should have leveled the sanctions weeks ago, Instead of making idle threats.

- +1 y
"This administration" Hahahaha. The last administration basically sucked Putin's cock on a daily basis.
- +1 y
@Wise4myage no you got that mixed up my friend. the whole world laughs at Putin. all thats gonna happen here is Russia going bankrupt attempting to fight a people who don't want to give up their country. its going to be another vietnam for the Russians
- +1 y
No I don't.
- +1 y
@Wise4myage because Putin has been known to heavily posture to show everyone elses hands before. this time he's gone a bit too far and has no choice but to go forward or they will be seen as weak... And if you loved during the cold war times one thing the Russians hate is to be seen as weak.
Also Sanctions tend to hurt the populace the most anyways. its not something we should just do willy nilly to any country that sabre rattles at us... we must use it responsibly. - +1 y
@Wise4myage yes you do... and as @supercutebutt you think Trump did any better with Russia? he basically let Putin walk all over him.

My only concern with Russia potentially invading the Ukraine is how far they take it, and the safety and security of Chernobyl NNP and it remaining open to the international effort to continue stabilising the facility. Under no circumstances can it fall under the control of Russia. I know that's not what their current intentions are but things change, once they have a foothold they may decide to go for the whole country.
11 ReplyRussia is going to lose. They are still 20 to 30 years behind the U. S. and western Europe on guidance technology and modern warfare tactics and strategies. The Ukraine is going to bleed Russian military and Russia will be forced to withdraw.
This is giong to be a total embarrassment for the Russian intelligence and military and the Kremlin..10 Reply
+1 yI think I’ve made my feelings rather clear, I believe that going to war with Russia, especially over Ukraine, is (and call me crazy) fücking insane!

yeah we won't move any of our troops in there. we are just sending ukranians weapons. with any hope russia will just bankrupt itself and its people will be demoralized to continue. a quagmire

We can hope!
Bloody World War Three.
Why the hell can't someone simply "double tap" that mentally deranged despot Putin.30 ReplyI feel sorry for the people who died and those who lost family members and friends. All Europeans are going to help Ukrainians because this is bad for their continent.

stop Russia now so Russia doesn't become a bigger problem later
- +1 y
Russia can't be a problem for the US. War won't help. Let them blow some of their precious resources on a stupid, long-term unwinnable war if they please. That will just make our resources more valuable. Don't get me wrong. I wish they wouldn't invade as I am against all violence except self defense, but that doesn't mean I think my blood and treasure should be spent to attempt to stop it
- +1 y
we won't send in troops. but will send in arms to the ukranians. and have been doing so.
- +1 y
That makes us an accessory. I say either sell to both sides or neither side ala Switzerland
- +1 y
nato and the us have pledged to help them out.
- +1 y
Yes we have and we shouldn't have, especially since the Ukraine isn't part of the alliance. The alliance itself should be dissolved as it was an aggressive alliance in the first place against the no longer in existence USSR. You are the same age as me. You must know the current Russia is nothing compared to the Soviet Union of the 20th century. We should do absolutely nothing that could spark the third world war that we somehow avoided in the 20th century. The whole issue stems from NATO trying to needlessly add the Ukraine. If not for our meddling and continued provocation of Russia, none of this would be happening right now.
- +1 y
"the current Russia is nothing compared to the Soviet Union of the 20th century. "
but are still acting aggressively and have nukes. and use this fact to get what they want.
"We should do absolutely nothing that could spark the third world war that we somehow avoided in the 20th century."
thats not going to happen because we won't put any boots on the ground. instead we give the ukranians weapons and food and such to help them fight back and turn the conflict into a quagmire for Russia and bankrupt them into giving up.
". The whole issue stems from NATO trying to needlessly add the Ukraine. "
no the issue stems from Russia keep thinking they can invade who they feel like. just a fact for you but in order to join nato the country that wants to as to request it. so all the other countries beside ukraine all requested to join them. Nato doesn't just encroach willy nilly like Russia or other expansionist powers seem to do.
"If not for our meddling and continued provocation of Russia, none of this would be happening right now."
completely disagree. they would have re-established the former soviet union or even the former Russian empire had some of the former warsaw pact countries not requested to join nato.

Why should NATO exist at all? Why is Europe the responsibility of the US, Canada, and the UK? The EU has more citizens than the US and nuclear capabilities as well. Let them deal with it
- +1 y
"Why should NATO exist at all?"
because Russia still thinks it can invade whatever it wants like its still the pre-nuclear age...
"Why is Europe the responsibility of the US, Canada, and the UK?"
its not just us... all of us in the world. Russia is a nuclear power... granted its weaker than china and the us but its still a major threat to world peace. it must be stopped before it gets too out of hand in the future.
"The EU has more citizens than the US and nuclear capabilities as well. Let them deal with it "
and we aren't we are just sending arms to the Ukranians as i've already stated.. thats all our involvement in this conflict will be.
+1 yPutin is as predictable as a Scooby Doo villain.
And I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for Alexei Navalny and that dog..10 ReplyOh noes ! Are the Ukrainian energy experts in DC going to have to find a new supply of hooverschneiff?
10 ReplyI'm shocked, shocked I tell you! I mean it was curious that he amassed over 100,000 troops on the border, but I thought that Putin said that he had no intention of invading. Hmm...
20 ReplyRussia is not invading Ukraine, Putin is protecting the Russian speaking areas that wish to be independent, as is their right, from the imperialism of the Ukraine speaking Eastern Ukraine. Of course, you never read about that from mainstream media.

@Still-alive if America goes to war it will probably start with economic sanctions which can destroy another country's economy. and u can't really fight a war when ur economy is in ruins. this unfortially means loads of innocent people get screwed though
- +1 y
@TuxTheAstronaut well sanctions are already gonna happened and its gonna be real strict sanctions too.
we won't send in us troops though we pledged that. we are only sending in ammunitions to help the ukranians - +1 y
yeah sanctions are a pretty easy way for the us to fight another country but what sucks is that this means the citizens are whos hurt the most
