For those that are unfamiliar with the case, Leslie Van Houten was a Charles Manson follower who was convicted for her participation in the Labianca killings:
Van Houten is serving a life sentence for helping Manson and others kill Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969. Van Houten was 19 when she and other cult members fatally stabbed the LaBiancas and smeared the couple’s blood on the walls.

Parole is a privilege not a right, I honestly do not know a whole lot about this, but from what I understand, they intended to start a race war that would destroy the country, also not ONE of them showed an ounce of remorse! Some of them were smiling while being walked into court, hell some of them were singing… Let them ROT there, until every single day of their sentence has been served! (And yes I am aware some of them are already out. I have neither control, nor an opinion on that… but the ones still in? They can stay there, especially Manson!

Well now, it looks like I'll be the voice of dissension here. Was her original sentence "life without the chance of parole"? Seems to me she's served her debt to society. Is she a threat to commit other crimes - that's the question most important to me. It also occurs to me that she might feel "safer" in prison and not want parole. She's 69 now, and wherever she ends up living, someone might want to kill her anyway.

One the one hand, Americans believe that young people are basically mentally impaired until they are ~25 years old (see age of consent questions here); on the other hand it makes complete sense to them to convict very young people as "adults" to incarcerate them for several decades.
Leslie van Houten was 19 years old at the time and being brainwashed by a manipulative monster like Charles Manson. It seems clear to me that Van Houten was no longer a threat once she was out from being under Manson's spell and given prison time to process her actions.
