This is just gross. Why isn’t anybody talking about this?
Now with the bill if it’s passed there will no longer be an age limit for marriage in Tennessee

The democrats unfortunately control about 95% of the media, so they can twist and distort facts to help them control their ignorant sheep. In many states, people in their late teens could get married, and it has always been this way. Look that up. I personally think it should not be allowed, or at the very least, if the teen is 17, the person they marry should not be over 19. It just amazes me that a person considering themselves to be on the radical left would be worried about this while being ok with the things their own side is doing...
You do know that right now, radical leftists are losing their minds, crying over the republican bill in florida that they wrongly call the "don't say gay " law. (That is NOT the name of the bill, but leftists do not know that, because CNN and MSNBC has them believing that is the actual name of it) All this bill does it make it illegal for these insane, left-wing teachers to teach kindergarten through 3rd grade kids about sex. Leftists are VERY passionate about wanting to teach a 6 year old about the "joys of gay anal sex"! One of the reasons for this law, was that several months ago, liberal teachers at a elementary school in Florida actually took a 2nd grade class on a field trip to a gay bar! Look that up! Why are these liberals so desperate to teach very small children about being gay? Teachers are pressuring some students to join gay clubs at schools, and this is being reported a lot. One elementary school has recently been caught distributing a work assignment that had a big circle on a page, representing a pizza. The kids were told to draw their favorite toppings on this pizza, representing their sexual interests. One topping represented "kissing" and so on. One of the toppings represented anal sex! How the hell do you give this assignment to an elementary school kid? This is what being a liberal is. Sadly, almost all teachers in the USA identify as radical leftists. This has been a long term plan of the democrats, to completely take over education in the country. Hitler used the same method to indoctrinate the German people. You can go on YouTube right now and look up a video of a teacher who bragged that she "has 180 days to mold her 2nd graders into future revolutionaries". They do not care about teaching reading, math, science, etc. They are focused solely on indoctrination. Another video on there is a left-wing teacher who bragged that she removed the American flag from her 2nd grade classroom and replaced it with the gay pride flag because it offended her. She complained that her school still required the pledge of allegiance. She said that one little boy asked her how could he do the pledge without and American flag. She told him to make the pledge to the gay pride flag instead. She laughed as she told that story. Any young person claiming to be be a proud liberal has been indoctrinated by teachers like these in the public school system. Liberals are the same people who passionately defended that disturbing Netflix show, "Cuties" which is a pedophiles wet dream. It was conservatives that wanted it banned. But all of this is ok, right? Just don't let a 17 year old teen girl get married!
Republicans again in their rush to try and get "religious freedoms" to discriminate against lgbt have poorly worded a bill to allow something that most would consider sick... though perhaps not to them considering this section of the article:
"Between 2000 and 2015, almost 90 percent of children who got married were girls and most were 16 or 17 years old. Children as young as 12 have been granted marriage licenses in South Carolina, Alaska and Louisiana, while 13-year-olds have been married in 14 states."
What is wrong with them that their hatred of lgbt would make child marriage better by comparison?
Read lol "There is no federal legislation in the United States regarding the minimum age for marriage, and states are allowed to set their own parameters. Currently, child marriage is legal in 44 states and nearly 300,000 children were married between 2000 and 2018 across the country, according to United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)."
Apparently it's already legal according to this news place.
Therefore your country already allows such things so dunno why this one state changing is such a problem. Unless if your saying the whole thing is a problem but then I don't know why you only emphasis this state.
When apparently it's already a thing allowed in most places in Usa and has been for a long while.
Why is this question about a potential loophole and not about the Elephant in the room.
They don’t really need a loophole, there have already been huge numbers married.
http://www.unchainedatlast.org/laws-to-end-child-marriage/
300,000 children as young as 10 were married in the U. S. between 2000 and 2018 – mostly girls wed to adult men.
This has been going on for a long time in the US and all I usually see on here are posts about other countries and their abuses.
I don’t think any party has done anything to stop this, it’s not a political thing it’s an American social issue, where things go on and politics is blamed but nothing ever changed.
I mean yeah but the difference is usually there’s at least some kind of age limit. This loophole doesn’t have a age limit
There have been age 10 and 11 getting married for a while
And of course it’s political. It’s the politicians that are allowing this to happen
Those in Black already have no Limit
It’s your society, why have the black areas never changed their laws?
Why say 50 years ago did people living there not say this is stupid?
Yes it’s political in that state politicians need to do something, however this comes down to people not being bothered about it, does not effect them, so they do nothing.
Politicians usually react to public opinion and outcry, society decides things and not politicians, that’s democracy
chris is pretty much right here. this is definitely a nationwide issue

I'll ask why God gives women a period at 13 or 14 years old unless they are intended for child bearing at that age? Not that I would want to marry a 14 years old WOMAN, but I might consider a 16 years old if it was legal. My older cousin got married when she was 16 (and pregnant) and it wasn't the end of the world. She's a medical assistant now.
For millions of years, women married when they got their first period.
Louisiana is doing the opposite of Tennessee. Now in the state of Louisiana it's literally illegal for a 21 years old to marry a 17 years old, even if she has parental consent.
I find it funny that people would go into an uproar at the idea of a child deciding to get married but have no problem letting a child decide to transition.
In both cases a child does not know enough to make an informed decision.
I know that is beside the point but it immediately made me notice the inconsistency.
So yeah kids shouldn't be allowed to get married before 18.
Children don’t transition though?
Trans kids take puberty blockers in order to make sure they are ready to transition when they are older
That’s totally different. And it’s also confusing you think it’s appropriate to weaponize trans children when it comes to issues of Childs marriage when I guarantee you don’t give a single fuck about trans kids
The age of consent in Tennessee is 18+, which includes the signing of binding legal contracts. This includes marriage. Unless someone can correct me on that.
The bill appears to be a pushback against the LGBT. You can have an honest debate about THAT being the issue, but this "loophole" theory about child marriage over what the bill DOESN'T say seems like a bit of a reach.
@BluishGaze I hope you're correct.
The only pushback is that the marriage can only happen between a man and a woman. So they are pro child marriage as long as it’s a straight couple?
1. the current age limit to get married is age 17 according to Tenessee law: law.justia.com/.../
2. this bill proposed has not specifically laid out an age limit like the current law does and if passed will replace/amend the current law including statute 36-3-105
"BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 36, Chapter 3, Part 1, is amended by
deleting §§ 36-3-103 – 36-3-112."

Thus your loophole is created.
@Still-alive thank you for this thorough explanation
The bill was amended adding a minimum age of 18 years old. The intent of the bill wasn't to allow child marriage. But sense Democrats are against the bill even with the age limit set now they found a way to make it look like the right wanted to allow child marriage.
"The bill was amended adding a minimum age of 18 years old."
umm no it wasn't...

Ummm! Yes it was. I didn't say it passed yet. I said the bill you are complaining about has been amended. But don't take my word for it.

Lol only after alll the outrage over it. there's noooo way theyd amend it if people didn’t speak up.
And you really think that was some mistake? These are lawmakers. Its Their job to make the law as fair as possible from the get go.
No this was originally by design dont kid yourself
The left spun it to look bad. But despite it not being a bill for child marriage, they still changed it to make all the leftist feel better.
And really the politicians on the left played on the leftist emotions looking for any way they could spin it to benefit them. And it worked. The leftist cried. It's what politicians do to win votes.
And that goes for Right wing politicians too. They all play us at different times. And as a country we got to be smarter and more suspicious of what they are feeding us.
This is a perfect example of jumping the gun by getting emotional before all the facts were their.
Look how some people who commented took your word for it without researching themselves first.
They were outraged by a bill for pedophiles. And now they will go on thinking this it's true because they have no reason to believe it's not true until someone gives them all the facts.
Politicians suck!
*There not their
I don’t care what their orientation is or whether their using the classroom and their position of authority to teach kids sexually explicit material, or legalizing child marriage. Groomers are groomers and we need to protect our children from them at literally all costs.
To help prevent the tomfuckery that was the narrative around the "don't say gay bill", here is the link to the bill so you can read it yourself.
Now, my legalese is cursory at best so take what I say with a grain of salt. I agree that how "common law" is used leaves a lot up to interpretation. However, unless the revision of the bills mentioned here removes the age requirements, it's likely that the age requirements exists on another piece of legislature and will still remain in effect.
In short, it all depends on what "common law" means here. I think it's more likely that gay marriage will be affected than the minimum age requirement.

@Still-alive Ah I see.
This bill is not explicitly saying anyone of any age can marry. It just defines what marriage is. We have a law stating the minimum age to marry is 17 and that law will still be in effect. The law is saying a gay marriage is not valid. This law DOES NOT lower the minimum marrying age.
Because it is so emotive. The young feel restricted, the older side (parents) want to protect their family.
Its one thing thinking you are mature, and can cope. But it is difficult for adults to cope with the stresses of being pregnant and looking after children. Getting married and keeping house..
I don't even know what to say about 12+13 yr olds getting married. Kudos to the states that put an end to this but geeze this should be a no brainer. Besides being too young for obvious reasons, can you even get working papers at 12 in these same states?
For an industrialized nation, the USA is a backwards country socially and ethically. They are near the bottom of the list of countries regarding human rights. And the Republican party is leading the way own the slope. They have not evolved from the 1800's way of thinking.
Northeast and the Northwest are much more advanced
Are you referring to Canada as they are northeast and northwest of the US.
Nobody with a brain is talking about it because the pieces that are circulating in the media were written by people who haven't bothered to read the actual legislation and the existing laws it seeks to amend. Had they done so, they would not be publishing this crap to wind people up. The proposed "bill" is actually an amendment, no part of which alters or deletes the statutory age requirement of 18 (17 with parental or guardian consent) in Tennessee. So settle down.
keep drinking that kool-aid miss...
@Still-alive. Is that the best you can do, come back with a juvenile comment? If can show me in the amendment and the affected statutes how this amendment creates a "loophole for child marriage" then show me. All of it is online for anyone who wants to take the time to read it. Otherwise you're just weirdly parroting the DeSantis Republican playbook from the funny papers. It does have an anti-LGBT slant (Kim Davis is alive and well), but no part of the amendment affects the statutory age requirement for any form of marriage.

Yes I know, which is why I was surprised at your response to commenter. Some of the reaction I’m reading sounds like the pedophile paranoia coming out of three red states. Commenter makes a valid point, the gist of which is go to the original source material rather than let some media minion tell people how they should think. That’s what I did. It’s unquestionably anti-LGBT but the child bride nonsense appears to have come out of his ass. The Biden crack pipe nonsense was another example. Still love you like a brother though. ❤️❤️
The first draft of any piece of legislation usually gets shot to pieces. I am not going to lose any sleep over something that hasn’t even made it to round one. I have enough on my plate with one business across the river where the state government has gone off the rails over the abortion issue.
It'd be nice if they actually presented directly what the bill said in the early parts of the article so we can actually discern or analyze it, but they quote the bill saying marriage will be between "one man" and "one woman" and "man/woman" is an adult. They didn't say "between a male and a female" or "between a boy/man and a girl/woman."
More and more moving to Jamaica seems more intriguing 🤦🏾♀️
Is this why they are so against abortion. Afraid of a drop in possible child brides? Because one is so much more humane than the other.
Only democrats get held to standards. When republicans do things like this they are just joking.
That just sounds like a paedophiles dream! I would hope the powers that be come to their senses before it is too late!!
That’s what happens when you have the harshest drinking laws in the country in a state full of alcoholics buzzed driving is drunk driving my ass I was tired of driving all the way to Mississippi to get rum and whiskey at 3 in the morning
Sick! I'm glad it isn't my state. Still, I wish I could do something.
Oh, it’s anti LGBT, that’s how they’re doing it. This is what conservatives do. They want to marry children in religious ceremonies and hide it in an anti lgbt bill. Eeww.
There’s already a legal age for marriage codified in Tennessee law. The bill doesn’t repeal that.
It's not gonna pass, it's still socially unacceptable in most of the world and mostly in the US
Republicans secretly love the Islamic culture while claiming to hate Muslims. This is super gross
Matt Gaetz is moving there asap
According to nature, the age of consent is the First Period, and according to both the Hebrew and Christian parts of the Bible, the age of consent is also when she gets her "flowers" or first period.
duh.
If God makes her ovulate, then she's old enough to bear children, then she's old enough to get married.
Historically, males in Israel also married when they were 12 years old, because that is the age they were entitled to an inheritance and built their own first home.
@Wade12345 Lol okay religious nutcase. I bet you love to date a 13 year old and fuck her
Think about it this way.
What if nuclear war happened and she was the ONLY surviving woman within traveling distance was a 13 years old who just got her period. Would it be okay to marry her and fuck her then? Gotta repopulate the species ASAP, right?
If you say "yes" then I'll ask what difference does it make today then?
Some 13 to 16 years old WOMEN own their own businesses or invented a multi-million dollar industry. Are you going to tell her she can't get married untl she's 21, like Louisiana wants to do now?
Anyway, if the only two human survivors after WW3 are a 40 years old man and a 13 years old WOMAN who has just got her period, how long do you think they should wait before they start fucking and making as many babies as possible?
@Wade12345 who cares about all of that crap you pedophile
@Wade12345 wow... no way
@Wade12345 you’re still a pedophile at heart.
They are legalizing pedophilia... in the name of family values
It will NEVER pass, Children are NOT sex objects.. Shame on the radical LEFT for trying to pass this Crap.
republicans are not radical leftists
I would know because I’m a radically leftist
It’s a poor attempt at cognitive dissonance
The article said this is happening in 44 states, but I'm sure it's all Republicans doing it.
Lol are you seriously more pissed about the optics than the fact that child marriage is gonna be legalized with no exceptions whatsoever?
You obviously don't give a shit, or you would have pointed out the Dems who are much worse. What about the dem mayor of Seattle that said it's OK for men to be naked around children in city parks?
If you want to point out perversion, leave politics out of it
Ok so you really only care about optics.. I don’t like democrats or republicans so I’m pretty sure there’s no bias here
And I suppose you expect people to believe that.
I’m literally a anarchist that is against the state. That’s reason enough
You posted that lame article, so talk is cheap.
And if I made that statement with no article I’d get republicans in my comments crying about misinformation
Don't try and con a con.
Im sure that weird ish won't get passed they need to stop trying to sexualize children and let them be kids
Republicans are sick people, but they will try and defend this somehow.
ill just post to see the trumpers on here try to justify this one lol
or claim fake news like they always do
Disgusting pedos. Why is this legal in a first world country wtf
Maybe Marsh Dumbass thinks "chidren" are "women" and can vote for her in upcoming elections and is this catering to the redneck population?
I’m republicans and I never have heard of this. I saw the one comment about claiming fake news but I’m claiming it till I see proof so.
Have you tried reading the bill?
Of course not. Go read the bill.
If she is 13, that is okay but not younger than 13.
Is this for all marriages or just between cousins?
Republicans hate child abuse, but then go and make a law like this
I understand that this age issue will be addressed in an amendment to the bill.
Because I do not like liberals and this bill doesn't affect me and makes them mad
Wtf they bump there heads down there lol
Why am I not fucking surprised.
How many 13 year olds really want to get married?
None id imagine
I haven't heard about this
That’s a little sussy
This is the first time I've heard about it.
Fake news
That's so wrong
Sure. If it was true. Even factcheck. com had to do a fact check on it.
This is just about the left trying to make the right look bad which is what both sides do. That's politics for yeah!
16 is a good age for girls to marry. 30 fof guys.
You supporting Childs marriage is something that should’ve stayed private
Grow up.
According to you in a few days I’ll already be old enough to marry 💀
And have babies just like your body was designed to do...
ahh you support pedofilia... nice. we all knew this is what you republicans are all about. all that fact outrage over gay people grooming kids in florida? but perfectly ok to groom them as long as you're hetero right?
fake outrage*
@Still-alive I'm not a republican. Don't be islamaphobic
doesn't matter. its still wrong... and a bit sick :)
@Still-alive so your are a racist islamaphobe just like your hero Trump.
tf does this have to do with islam?
@Still-alive yes make your America great again...
you're making no sense? is this your way of avoiding the truth? nice
Lol yeah I think it’s just a fake troll anon
Fr I hope she doesn’t consider ever having kids
Typical trump support
Weird
Coz no one cares
Maybe you should?
I ain't from United States of freedom
