How do you feel about Jason David Frank (Tommy) from Power Rangers committing suicide at 49 yr of age?

The actor and mixed martial artist died in Texas, according to his rep Justine Hunt. Sources with direct knowledge tell us his death was the result of suicide.

JDF is best known as Tommy Oliver from the original run of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" franchise, dating back to the kids series' debut in 1993 ... when he was introduced as one of six crime/monster-fighting superheroes, masked head to toe with kung-fu skills.

Fans will remember... he started out as the Green Ranger in Season 1, introduced at first as an enemy of the Power Rangers -- only to do a 180 and become good. After his powers start to deteriorate, however, he's turned into the White Ranger... and tapped as the new leader of the group. Frank starred as one of the leads for 3 seasons, totaling 123 episodes.

New info has come out. Jason David Frank and his wife got into an argument at a hotel and stayed in separate rooms. Jason locked himself in his room and his wife tried calling him but he would not answer. She then contacted the police and they had to break the door down to enter into his room. When they entered they saw that Jason had hung himself in the hotel's bathroom.

I hear stories in the news about suicides a lot over heart break and divorce and lost custody of children and in every case where the suicide happened, the situation would have changed if they had waited just a little bit longer. A broken arm or leg might not grow back but a relationship break up is different, and is almost always temporary if the person seeks new opportunities and is willing to wait patiently for new opportunities. Which is why nobody should kill themselves over heart break, the heart does not stay broken forever.

It's sad, my husband was talking about him and how he was one of his favorite powerangers. I just wish people knew they didn't have to suffer alone, suicide is permanent decision for temporary problem. Plus I just wish he would of thought of his kids first before doing this. He was a very handsome, talented man. hearing this at first I thought this was over his career not being at its peak like it use to be when he was younger. I didn't know or hear much about him outside of Powerangers, but until we get more updates that's my only guess

What the f*ck? ! Did that really happen? That's tragic! I am just now finding out about this! He did martial arts well past his end on Power Rangers and was even doing work for Super Power Beat Down from BatInTheSun on YouTube. He seemed very healthy and well adjusted. This is shocking, to be honest. Even if he wasn't a mainstream actor, he still had a healthy career and was getting work. Worst part is, he had a teenage daughter, too.

It’s sad. However without a doubt his wife divorcing him was the top contributing factor. That doesn’t mean his decision was her fault (she claims he was unfaithful). But he should of reached out for help.

Middle aged guys are at very high risk for suicide. We tend to isolate more as we age and if we are married our wives and children are the only people we consistently socialize with. I know my dad never hung out with anybody except my mom after he got married. He completely devoted himself to work, my mom and family. Admirable but at the same time risky in many ways.

I also know middle aged non college educated white guys are notoriously at the highest risk of suicide. But this can impact men off all races and backgrounds.

I have a feeling something else might of been going on. Maybe he had an undisclosed medical and/or mental health issue. He might of had substance abuse or gambling problem.

@sage2021 cheating and getting caught cheating isn't the reason men commit suicide. most men who commit suicide do so because they have no other options left. they've been beaten down and had their confidence stripped away from them repeatedly such that any semblance to regain their confidence is met with animosity.

women have a hard time already recovering from trauma in just a single incident for example, she was molested as a toddler but for those men who commit suicide, it's not a one-off situation, it's usually years upon years of abuse piled onto them, being told they are worthless if they don't win and too "toxic masculine" if they do win. then there's the harsh truth that men are expendable because if a war broke out, you best believe it's gonna be men who get drafted, many would be send to die without ever passing on their genes.

I've already heard so many contradictory narratives regarding what happened, that Tammie's story doesn't seem like the most reasonable.

Maybe what she's saying is accurate. But I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn it wasn't actually suicide, and for forensic teams to reveal that this is one of those horrific cases you'd expect to see on Investigation Discovery.

Now, if he were working on something along the lines of what Chester Bennington was working on right before death, then I'd expect all the medical examiners and crime lab detectives to suddenly go missing, and for the case to never be solved.

But failing that, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we get an episode of "Power, Privilege, and Justice" titled "Who REALLY Killed the Green Ranger?"

Something something the electric chair, all the other actors giving predictable speeches about how shocked they are "that anyone could do this," etc.

Granted, JDF has had attempts on his life before. So I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that it was foul play, and Tammie is part of a cover up.

The reasons to want him dead can run the gamut. Maybe he really was a cheater; or maybe she was the cheater. At any rate, she wanted him gone, enough to instigate a public scandal as an insurance policy.

Then, there's the chance someone is selling merch, and figured that its value goes up if he's dead. In Tinsel Town, the reasons to bump a figure off are legion; and no motive is too despicable.

This also highlights a reason that a lot of actors refuse to play superheroes: playing the role can ruin your life in real life! George Reeves was infamously driven to suicide from playing Superman. Adam West and Burt Ward found life rough once they stopped playing Batman and Robin.

Tobey Maguire wanted to be known as something other than Spider-Man, and has had a hard time with that. Heck, even Andrew Garfield has had a tough break since playing Spider-Man! And the part ruined Tom Holland so much, his attempt to play Nathan Drake for the Uncharted movie was a disaster. (Granted, the bad writing didn't help.)

It only stands to reason that if these actors have found that playing a superhero can hurt your chances moving forward, that actors playing Power Rangers would be at the same risk.

A few managed to break the mold, but only at the expense of taking on very bizarre roles! Johnny Yong Bosch had to reinvent himself as a top-tier voice actor, in order to be remembered as anything other than Adam. Rose McIver went from Yellow Ranger Summer Landsdown to a horny zombie in the CW's iZombie adaptation. Which... I'm not sure counts as an upward career move!

No matter how you slice this, I can see the 90s nerd community being nothing but devastated. This, just a short time after Kevin Conroy lost his battle against cancer. The Green Ranger is now just a memory, and Batman lost his voice.

For those who haven't already, I'd say it's time to grow up. For nostalgics, it's not going to get any better.

It's terrible and very sad. You never know what someone could be facing or dealing with, something horrible couldve been going on behind the scenes too. Poor guy. Yet people wanna be so mean and cruel these days acting careless. Life is too short, I don't let those people bring me down no more regardless but this guy was probably battling some demons secretly or maybe he felt like he couldn't talk to someone close to him because of how they are or who knows. Didn't know him, sad to know another man gave up on life and curious to know the root causes. Men need more outlets for support to get through the changes in life. I've seen a lot of strong men endure a lot but some get to their breaking points. We need more events to build up men and give them healthier avenues.

I'm sorry to hear how he died, and that be traumatic to his wife and family as well. Somehow, people need to learn how to resolve relational disputes in a more constructive way.

That may or may not be true. But given his semi celebrity status you would still figure he had a future in front of him. Sure 49 is way too old for mma but he could of been a coach, fight choreographer, side actor, podcaster, etc. I imagine some woman out there would still be interested. He wasn’t a bum.

Anyway white middle aged men are by far the highest risk of suicides. Especially if they are not well educated. The depression he was facing was no joke and he should of reached out for help. He was a Christian and I wonder if he at least brought up his struggles at church. Most Christian churches are very supportive when people ask for help. I know mine helped me when I went through some of the worst times of my life.

Even if he fix screw up his marriage and was forced to lie in the bed he made there was still hope to turn things around. There was probably something else much deeper going on. He probably cheated and acted disconnected from his wife from clinical depression. Not an excuse for his actions but depression can drive men to do stupid things. Especially when they get older and their options become increasingly limited.
