Should the US military reform the Eagle & Flying Tiger Squardons to fight in Ukraine?

These squadrons were made up of volunteer US pilots to fight the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain & the Japanese Airforce in China as the US was neutral they were not part of the US military officially. The Ukrainians need skilled & trained F16 pilots.

Might also be time to send other aircraft capable of fighting such as the A4 Skyhawk, F4 Phantom, F5, F18 Hornet etc

Well they gave their blessing. They were volunteers but you can volunteer to fly or Ukrainian airforce but you couldn't volunteer to fly for the Chinese airforce

@Jamie05rhs not sure I understand how all that works. I'd think they need millions of drones and teens drafted to fly them remote and a few people on the ground to deploy and manage them. possibly the way any border will be managed going forward... or wars for that matter.
f16's... get them by end of year is what I hear, maybe a few of them, educate pilots and replace pilots... get shot out of the air quickly, blow up at the bases. I don't see that adding anything other than fuel to the fire. just like the tanks... helps a little, won't change the equation that much.
and replace all the worn out cannons and make more artillery shells, etc. etc.. not going to out produce russia in materials. the plan appears to financially capitulate them.

Shit, i accidentally chosen "Yes". Actually - No. USA already helps Ukraine a lot (my opinion as a Ukrainian guy), and believe me, all ukrainians are grategul for that. The only thing we need is weapons to be supplied in a timely manner and in the quantities necessary to fight back our territory. Guys on the frontline are capable of doing that, the problem is just without F16s or any other useful fighters, its much more difficult and takes more time. More time equals to more deaths, and the priority for us to save more lives. So, more meapons = more lives safed. We'll deal with russians by ourselves. And believe me, billions US spent for the support of Ukraine is the best deal ever to fight Russia. Its the best investment throughout all history to fight this enemy. During cold war times US prent trillions to fight USSR.

I'm no expert but I believe that there is still piled up stockpiles of f4s, f5s, A4s and others stockpiled in the boneyard.
If a mig 21 can shoot down an f16 then I'm sure an f4 has a shot at a mig29 which is an aircraft from the 80s and the Russians haven't really modernised them.

@drewtate A fucking Fishbed splashed an F-16? WTF? One thing I do know is the Electronic Warfare environment over the Ukraine is the most intense ever seen in history. Every major player has brought their newest toys to play, which has to convolute the air warfare scene.

The MIG-29 in capable hands is a dangerous aircraft, it has excellent rate fighting capability and a solid power/weight ratio. Of course it all comes down to the pilot.

I have to think the boneyard aircraft aren't readily serviceable, but I could be wrong.

To be fair the F16 was being flown by a Pakistani and the mig21 an Indian.
I think the air war situation as the Russians found out is that any non stealth aircraft attacking in enemy held territory can't survive. That's why Russian aircraft are firing long range missiles at targets inside Ukraine while still in Russian held territory.
