No. It could mean job loses meaning employees are victims

No. It could mean stores closing or moving meaning local consumers are victims

No it encourages a culture of crime. Citizens are victims.

I will not feel bad when insurance companies, who Americans are forced by theirnl government to pay money to, and who do everything they can to avoid performing their function, are forced to pay money and potentially see a loss. I will not feel bad when Walmart, a company that has nearly singlehandedly killed Main Street and has, in turn done more to obliterate the American Dream than any other company before the rise of Amazon, loses money. I will not feel bad when a man who makes so little because of the way these manage and pay their employees, and the influence they have on the labor market decides to steal food from them to feed his family.

Is shoplifting right? No. But, then, most shoplifters are criminals born of necessity, who created that necessity? So while I will never condone it, I can never condemn someone for trying to let his family survive

They do that in Texss too, Walmart doesn't care... I was on a contracted remodel team and we watched a guy load a big screen TV out the side door and reported it to the nearest employee l, they just shrugged and told us to report it to customer service... its not a red state or blue state problem

@anonymous Half of these people are not stealing to feed their family, they are doing it because it is easy and if they get caught, they will be let go if the loss is not more than $950. But, I agree with most of what you said. I don't know what dumb shits came up with this not prosecuting people who can steal $949 worth of stuff with impunity. The only victims are the ones who get caught, lol. Ok, now that I have that out of my system, I think maybe small family stores it hurt. I read that Walmart makes billions of dollars a year, and the cfo wants to raise prices because last year they lost 5 billion dollars in theft, but mak billions.

I doubt major corporations suffer. I had a relative once that worked as a GM making almost $100,000 a year. I think stealing is wrong to some extent, but if someone was hungry, I wouldn't find anything wrong with it.

Theft is theft and I don’t care how big or small. WE ALL PAY FOR THEFT IN STORES. Prices need to be raised to offset theft. Security guards have to be brought in raising costs (past on to the customer). Or as in many stores products are put behind locked doors which inconveniences every shopper. It is not victimless. We are all victims of it.

Shoplifting is not a victimless crime. We all suffer from shoplifting, from increased prices and insurance costs to reduced inventory. However, I can see how the police must prioritize what they do... small-scale shoplifting is much less important than murder, assaults and other serious crimes.

Mega million companies aren’t going to go bankrupt from some petty theft. I’m all for stealing if it’s out of necessity and from companies that can afford the loss. I don’t believe in stealing from small businesses though. They can’t cover the loss. I do think that decriminalising theft under $950 is ridiculous though. Anything over $100 is not a necessity.

Mega companies won't go bankruprt but will pass those loses on to consumers ie more expensive baby food. If a store becomes unprofitable due to the amount of shoplifting and say constant assaults on staff or consumers which they are liable for they will close or move which has happened in San Francisco

I would agree with you if we were talking about a loaf of bread of a food item like that but not make up, LV bags, cigarettes, tv sets…. Theft is theft. And ultimately if not stopped it will create a theft culture. People will start stealing from neighbors or anyone who has what someone else wants.

Hence why I said, I’m all for stealing if it’s out of necessity. Food, hygiene products, clothes, and medications fall under that. But I don’t consider anything that’s over $100 to be a necessity. Alcohol or cigarettes aren’t considered necessities though. You don’t need them to live.

Actually it’s not nice. These programs are completely abused. In some cases there are families with multiple generations on welfare. Illegal immigrants are given welfare also. All funded by taxpayers who are already being taxed to death.

I think it is unfair to tax people to pay for those who won’t, not can’t work, and likewise to pay for foreign nationals who have entered the country illegally.
