Nobody claimed the vaccines would be as efficient as the old ones for viruses which don't mutate like Smallpox, and Measles etc. (although they're recommending boosters for people who got the Measles vaccine in the 1960s, but I think that's a quality thing from the vaccines back then).

The whole worry about coronaviruses is that, like the flu virus, they mutate. A lot. Quickly. And they occasionally mutate into forms that kill 10%+ of the infected.

One thing you say that's based in reality: "You can never create a reliable vaccine for something that mutates so rapidly."

That's why scientists have spent decades researching SARS, planning how to contain it, and developing techniques to produce vaccines for it, should it get out. (Remember how Trump's administration refused to take part in training for the possibilty of a pandemic?)

It's also the reason you shouldn't be crying about the vaccines not being 100% effective; you know why they couldn't ever be, but you'll pretend that they have to be.

Flu viruses mutate as well, the vaccines help people every year.

Social distancing didn't come from no where. We've known for centuries the best way not to catch a disease is to distance ourselves from carriers. The question was in today's crowded world what is a realistic distance to stay apart, you have to balance the danger zone with the impact it has on peoples lives. 2m probably wasn't ideal but it wasn't realistic to ask people to stay 10m apart.
