As far as I'm aware, the footage they've been passing around is allegedly from before his diagnosis. This is very common in news reports where they'll use stand-in photos or videos under the assumption that the average viewer doesn't care about such things. It's also entirely possible that they're silently acknowledging that the masks were pointless.

In my opinion, they're lying about the diagnosis and using it as an excuse to hide him away for something else, potentially as a prelude to an announcement that he is stepping down as the Democratic nominee "for health reasons" so he can preserve the illusion of his fake legacy.
