In Manatee County Florida a homeowner shot and killed a home invader. Is this a good shoot?

There were two invaders. One was from Mexico and the other was from Chile. One was killed and the other was captured a short distance away.

The County Sherriff said that if you break into somebody's house, you should expect to be shot.

I doubt that any charges will be filed against the homeowner. It is no wonder that Florida is near the top of states that have the most people from liberal states moving in.

If someone breaks into your home while you are there, it is automatically a serious threat. Breaking in when someone is home is really bold and should be taken seriously.

Having said that, it does not mean you can simply shoot them. At that point it might not take much, but there needs to be more than simply being in your home. Pointing a weapon at them will be enough in most cases.

I have pointed a gun at a thief before. I was fully prepared to fire, but there was no need to. Once they saw me, they stopped what they were doing and slowly backed away. They left and that was the end of it.

@WindAtMyBack Most home invaders will be armed, and have been known to murder the homeowner and entire family after raping the females. Are you really going to wait until they overpower you or shoot first before you can make up your mind whether to shoot, or wait until they shoot you and your family first?

First of all, most home invaders are not armed. Murder and rape from a home invader are even more rare.

Anyway, no, I would not automatically shoot. I would zero in on them and warn them. At that point they better freeze. Any fast moves and I shoot.

Contrary to what some people might think, extremely few people will attack when they have a gun leveled at them.

As I said, I have done it before.

I don't know where you are getting your information from, but violent crime has decreased dramatically over the last 20-30 years. The media might want you to believe otherwise, because they make their money by reporting on that stuff and blowing it up as big as they can. We are enjoying our vacation here in Florida with beautiful weather, good food and feel very safe.

we see sheriffs helping citizens here. It’s all good… the state is running smoothly.
I have always enjoy visiting Florida…. Since around 2000… lots of new buildings.

If someone breaks into a house it is normally assumed that they were there to do harm, so that the homeowner would be exonerated of any wrongdoing. But Biden would have pardoned them had they lived. 😎

I like the sheriffs statement but needs translated to all languages. Add to it we do need to have some compassion for those down and out on streets as hunger will drive people to the edges…. So those are less likely to do harm.
Id need facts to judge. But favor home owners assumption. Gotta be careful w those assumptions as innocents been killed in error more than once. Were there cerbal warnings?

No. We only have the homeowners word that it happened as such.

But it shows that a camera setup, burglar alarm and other deterrents could have saved a lot of police time and hassle. Instead, your average murican would rather play cowboys and Indians, with the real chance of shooting some Indians.
