Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow on Groundhog Day, meaning 6 more weeks of winter is ahead of us.

Phil's distant cousin, General Beauregard Lee In Georgia, also saw his shadow.

So, are you prepared for 6 more weeks of Winter?

In honor of @Iron_Man, people in Florida are cheering it on, that's more days they don't have to turn the A/C on and pay high FP&L electric rates.

But, Staten Island Chuck, another distant cousin groundhog who lives in the Staten Island Zoo in New York City, says winter is over and we can expect an early Sprint.

So, who do we believe?

I live in New England, we don’t see spring til mid-to-late May around these parts. I’ve learned to keep expectations in serious check.

Its crazy, but unless I’m confusing memories, I remember getting baptized as a kid, maybe around eight years old, and I feel SO SURE that it was done on Easter at the Easter services, and I remember it being an absolutely beautiful day…but it couldn’t have been more than mid-April.

Actually, just looking it up, and if my memory of the year is right, it would have been April 19th of 1987. So it’s possible. But I feel like now, now that I’m a fisherman, I’m going out there in April around that time hoping to catch a bass, and it’s still like 45 degrees out and decidedly un-spring-like. Really, there’s a day in may when I show up, and all of a sudden, the pond is alive, and I see minnows and tadpoles and all that, and THAT’S when the bass start biting. And that, I believe, is now in May.

“Spring” here is like the week before Memorial Day, and that’s it. April is just Winter Lite, lmao

@WhiteSteve I know what you mean. I grew up in Western New York State and got married on a beautiful January day, sunny with temps in the 60s. When we got back from our honeymoon 10 days later, there was a foot of snow on the ground.

Wow, I can’t compete with Lake Effect winters, you win😝 I remember we had a nice Indian Summer like that (can we still say that?🤔 Maybe not😅…whatever they call it now, lmao) about 20 years ago. I was still playing semipro football at the time and was able to go to a nearby park with my little orange cones and my cleats for some offseason route-running work. Nice couple of days. Rude awakening to go back to real winter for two more months though😖 That’s awesome that it worked out for your wedding though! Nice wedding for off-season prices, haha

Thank you my friend for the honorary mention you hit the nail on the head with this question because that’s exactly how we feel we love cold weather, cause it’s always so hot here. I’m very glad that there’s gonna be another six weeks of cold winter Arctic blast the more the better

Another 6 weeks of winter? Around these parts we are pretty much guaranteed another 10 to 12 weeks of winter. Some years we have snow here in May.

It's a quaint custom, although not sure how reliable. I tend to measure the situation by when plants like snowdrops and bluebells bloom.

@Paige90 No. We had overnight lows in the upper 20's and only 30 in some places. But no snow. I remember snow when I was a toddler. And ice storm in 1962-63, snow in 1988, and very light flurries which did not stick a few times.

I don't care if some overgrown rat sees its shadow. Here we have not had ice or snow yet, but now it is in the near forecast. So winter is not over yet.
