The Paddington Bear statue on a bench in the author's hometown of Newbury England has been vandalised. Two 22-yo men have been arrested and the statue remnants have been recovered.

Personally, I think a reasonable punishment would be for the 2 guys to be locked into a stock for 8 hours and have raw eggs thrown at them. Then, after being let out of the stock, they have to clean up the area with nothing but their bare hands. And, of course, the entire event livestreamed on YouTube, with all proceeds going to the effort to restore the statue.

Luckily that looks like a pretty modern statue not some decades old historical thing that could never be replaced. I read its not one of a kind so I assume it can be remade and restored. Of course at the cost of the people who did it.

As for a funny punishment idea, I think they should have to get a labor punishment of having to dress up in a paddington cosplay entertaining the people around that bench, taking the place of the statue until a time that the statue has been repaired.

They should have a cast of the bear made around their bodies and forced to take 24 hour shifts as the statue's replacement being fed nothing but marmalade sandwiches for the duration of the time it took to make a new statue.

Apparently Newbury is a fairly affluent area, not the type of place you'd expect vandalism. I think they should be forced to sit on the bench and read pooh books out loud all day only stopping for marmalade sandwiches.

I can't think of a punishment that would be sufficient without being considered too much by law. I did come up with an idea though. How about spending 52 days a year at a zoo shoveling elephant shit. Right now they have to have it done daily and when they can get volunteers, they save having to pay staff to do it. 52 days a year would be the equivalent of once each weekend, so if they could not be their each weekend. they could still spend that amount of time doing it through the year.
