Alexis von Yates, a Florida nurse who was caught by her husband having sex with her 15 year-old step son was sentenced to only 2 years in prison, which will be followed by 2 years of community service, and then 10 years of probation and being registered as a sex offender. One night she told the boy she was horny and gave him some weed while they watched a movie, then started going at it.

First saw this case on Law & Crime months back and was deeply appalled that the father was actually upset with the boy and kicked him out, blaming him for them having sex. Once again the system gives the woman a light sentence. Thoughts?

It's despicable. Had the genders been reversed, the male perp would have been charged with and convicted of statutory rape, which is what it clearly was in this case, and sentenced to 20 years. She was not even charged with rape, only "lewd or lascivious battery on a child between 12 and 16".

Disgusting. The fact that there is no outrage about this case in the national media speaks volumes about the privilege women enjoy but don't acknowledge or appreciate.

I will say something controversial:
Punishment befitting the crime


The reality is: this isn’t about equality between genders when it comes to crime and punishment.
The trauma endured by the boy warrants 2 years of jail, 2 years of community service and being put on the registry.
That’s not nothing
But chances are he’s not gonna wake up with nightmares for the rest of his life


I’ve met adult women who were victims of such acts when they were teenagers and the damage is usually more severe and long lasting


That’s because men and women don’t experience sex in the same way


Not saying a boy can’t be raped by a woman. Because we all know he can.
But depending on context and circumstances it can have very minimal effect


Here’s the controversial part:
The woman is hot.
He was 15 which depends on how early his puberty came is old enough to be having sex
(Spoiler alert, most 15 year old boys do it)
Assuming she didn’t force him into compromising position such as insisting on penetrating him with an object or forcing his head down between her legs and so on, he could have easily just had the time of life doing what every teen boy wants to do: fuck.


I don’t think this should be legal and it isn’t.
But I don’t think she deserves a harsher punishment just because if the roles were reversed the man would get a longer sentence


Because even a manipulative consent from a man to a girl can still leave her traumatized for life, even if he didn’t technically force her hand.


And by the way: many such cases the men get light sentences as well.
It’s only sever when there’s physical assault involved (and can be proven in court which is a separate battle altogether)

I sort of agree (as a general rule) but I don't think this is really because men and women by nature experience sex differently. I think the fact that there are men who only enjoy sex e. g. with an emotional connection shows this is not a biological difference. I think there are additional levels of shame for women tied to purity and virginity culture which can add to the trauma; whereas boys are less likely to experience it as traumatic because the cultural script doesn't shame them to the same degree for having sex outside of a committed relationship

But boys absolutely do experience this sort of thing as traumatic, particularly if they aren't emotionally/mentally ready for sex or felt coerced in any way, just like girls

That is what makes her far worse than him, who has little good judgment about such a situation already. She has far more adult reasoning capability and chose on purpose not to use it.

It reminds me of the program on TV on the TLC channel and on porn sites called "MILF" (Mother's I'd Like to fu*k.
They were boys around 15ish, with older women that were mothers. The program was on basic cable TV so anyone could watch it.

On a complete tangent, I was wondering last night if trans women will get woman-lite sentences for sex offences also.

I remember reading this case. I think the plea was that the stepmother was overcome by curiosity as to whether the son was as big as his father.

My view is that it can have just as devastating effect on a boy as it does on a girl - just in a different way. With boys the family structure is often destroyed and that can have rest of life impact.

In my local Crimes Act there is no distinction for gender of the pedophile and step-parents are committing incest if they have sex with a stepchild.

Sentencing is entirely different however. A female teacher got a suspended sentence because the judge thought the community had punished her enough.

It would seem that discretion in sentencing should removed if judges abuse it.

I wonder if he sent his son to the real mom, otherwise he couldn't just put him out at 15.
For him, had they not been caught would possibly be a great thing for the kid and he would want it regularly with her. But it seems he would feel guilty and the betrayal would and will probably be heavy. That is unless he has a bad relationship with the father.

15 is young. I'm not sure the punishment should be the same. At that age the majority of my friends had already done this and some a bit younger. One kid was feasting on high school girls at age 11 with a friend who was 16 that brought them to his house when his parents were gone. He had a giant wang. He ended up a very bad alcoholic his sister informed me of about 10 years ago.
I think she's getting plenty of punishment. I don't think with reversal of genders the man should get any more than this either. It should depend on each individual. We all progress at different rates.
