To be clear it counts as rape even with half a second. In fact, it is rape before that too. The man in question was convicted of rape. He is currently in jail for that crime.

Sweden has two severities of rape. There is rape, which is already a horrible crime and then there is what is labeled severe rape. Which is typically if it includes weapons, multiple people, abduction, so on.

The version with extra circumstances has deportation as one possible punishment. Both are punished. Should they be punished harsher? Yes, absolutely.

This is sensationalised only because people overlook that it was rape. The man was convicted of rape. He is in jail for rape. He was however not convicted of rape with especially gruesome circumstances. Robbery but not armed robbery. Same line of logic, worse crime.

I do believe that Sweden's more rehabilitative justice system does not quite stand up to some of the new cultures seeking asylum in the country. As always it is worth pointing out that Sweden meausures sexual crimes much more seriously than most countries which is the result of its high reported rate. The actual rate is lower than countries like the UK and US.

This! People talk here like he isn't punished. This is important context. I still believe three years is a low sentence.

I agree with everything you say except deportation not being tough enough as punishment. Wouldn't that depend on where one was deported to. Im thinking the moon would be a great place for rapists

Oh deportation could be tough enough. I was mostly agreeing with the 3 year sentence he ended up getting not being nearly enough. 3 years is the minimum he could get.

Although low sentences for rape is a near international phenomena. Despite public consensus it should be high.

I don't think a rapist considers the consequences when contemplating such an act. I also seriously doubt that the immigrant in question had any understanding of Sweden's designations of the crime.

So no to your question, but yes, Sweden needs to re-examine this law. Effably gave the example of robbery vs armed robbery, and I understand it in the context of "robbery". However, I think rape already starts out as a much more serious and severe crime on an entirely different level. For that reason, it should carry a higher "initial" punishment before even considering the gruesomeness of the act over and above its inherent horribleness.

Thank you for inviting me to share but I cannot offer any opinion other than the very thought that rape even exists makes me sick to the core of my essence. I cannot understand for 1 second how anyone could possibly do that to another human being. I so deeply wish I could find someway to ever prevent this from happening. I do not believe "Castrate them all" or whatever is the answer. For present cases happening here and now, yes, something like that is prolly the best solution BUT it has to go deeper than that somehow. What made them want to do that in the first place? And dont give some smart ass answer like, "She wouldn't give pussy" FU. The solution has to start somewhere much younger. I feel we have a responsibility to teach and be taught somehow just to be decent fucking human beings to each other. Why is that so fucking hard?

There are entire cultures that believe in misogyny and believe that women's bodies belong to men. That is the core fundamental problem here.

So, one thing missing from the headline is the part that the decision for not deporting is mainly a punishment vs. Deportation decision.
The main issue I see is that rape only gets you three years. WTF! How is rape only three years? Lock them up for a lifetime.

Yeah, rapists do what they do with no real of punishment

I had the misfortune of meeting a rapist, well I should say he had the misfortune of meeting me and a set of jump cables
I said 'I hear even a whisper of your name and something like this again, I wouldn't let your voided bladder stop me finishing you off'

I knew someone who dealt with his sisters attacker... bundled him into a van, over to a rundown warehouse, tied to a chair and teeth pulled with a set of pliers before dumping him on the street
Dumped his teeth in rivers between his home in eastern Europe and the last few into the Thames in London

Well, not only that, but it will encourage more crime in general, since it shows Swedish justice is weak.
Now you'll have plenty of rapes from migrants who will say it lasted less than 6 minutes, so it's not serious.
One judge literally sacrificed dozens of young girls in the future, with that decision.

I don't know the specifics of Swedish law, but that doesn't sound right... rape not long enough?

In any case, I'm with @exitseven on this. If there's no punishment for the crime, people will continue to commit the crime, just like the shoplifters in San Francisco.

isn't sweden the best place to be serving a sentence? like in the world? it was them or norway but the cell looked like a fairly nice apartment with a normal window and anything you could want. it was interesting to see the list and how the conditions were for these countries.

It doesn’t necessarily encourage them, but it definitely doesn’t discourage people with low sociopathic impulses to defy their urges. Boys and young men who might otherwise “date r*pe” women need the harshest penalties in plain view to discourage them. I say execute them on first offense.
    Let God sort them out.

it's funny when socialists use Sweden as their prime example of their "utopia"

Swedish men importing women from East and South-East Asia is considered bad

but Swedish women importing men from Africa and Middle East is considered good

Yes, it does, but they like the US has to learn the hard way by subjecting their women to paying the price for letting shitty people into their country. A lot has changed, tho, in the last few months with the start of deporting Muslims, and the crime rate has now dropped measurably

This to me is sickening. Where in the world rape has to last x amount of time to be considered rape? The allegations and consequences would be very different if one of their daughters was the one being attacked.

That must be like in California. If you steal less than a thousand dollars. It is not breaking the law!
I guess if you want to rape someone. You will need to take a stop watch along. So you know when to pull out?

Totally wrong, of course. This probably was sentenced in a 'politically correct' court, where the judge feared that he or she would get tagged as 'racist' for condemning a muslim.
