In the next few years, if corrective action fails to be taken, we may be witnessing the collapse of fire and emergency services in the United States.

Fire departments are sounding the alarm, but there is little attention being taken by news outlets, the general public, or politicians.

What the public fails to realize time and time again, fire departments usually don't just handle fires, but they are multi-disciplined and respond to a wide array of emergencies, with medical emergencies being the largest call volume for those who respond to EMS calls.

Fleets are breaking down. New emergency vehicles are on a 4 year wait list. Compounding to the issue is the critical shortage of firefighters and other emergency service personnel.

The Texas Attorney General has launched an investigation probe into fire apparatus manufacturers for an alleged illegal anticompetitive scheme.

It is harder to find volunteers to perform these duties. People are not s invested in their communities, do not work in the town or are afraid of lawsuits if something goes wrong during a rescue. When I moved into my town there were mainly call firefighters. The only full time firefighter was the chief. The town has grown, yet it became mere difficult to find call firefighters. One of the substations had been closed. Eventually the town was forced to hire full time firefighters.

I think when people become endangered or if insurance companies increase the cost of home insurance they will change their minds.
