This story is not surprising. There are many people out there who can be easily swayed by supposed religious leaders.

This kind of thing keeps happening and it usually involves people who are not very smart to begin with and want and need something to believe in. So the people that run these things provide that along with food and shelter and clothing and even employment of a sort and we wind up with this sort of thing. This should have been investigated much sooner than it was apparently.
