I read today that the US Postal Service will raise the cost of sending a first class letter. My wife buys the so called "Forever" stamps that do not have a value on them. I really have no idea how much it costs.

First class letter in US now costs 82 cents in July 2026. USPS just raised the price of a forever stamp to 82 cents. Forever stamps have no value on them but have the value of a first class stamp whenever they are used. I still have a few forever stamps I bought when the price was around 50 cents.
I rarely mail anything. Most communications are done electronically.
Isn't the first class rate now $0.74 for the first ounce?
Don't you think the price for a simple service is too high?
@OneNisa The US Post Office operates inefficiently. The cost covers their cost, but if the post office was more efficient, the cost could be lower.
that was a couple of years ago, Now it is 82 cents. I remember the 25 cent stamp.
You're just a kid. I remember when the first class rate was $0.04 for the first ounce.
wow, that's crazy.
no. the last item i mailed an envelop was a netflix disk. paid by my monthly membership fee. i have not sent mail paper to government official nor citizen in at least ten years! that bush -r administration was helpful. but since then the price doubled from 41 to 82! get yours before prices jump to $1.42!
Activities that do not attract much interest should have a low fee.
good point! that is like low demand. but that is the point of 'forever' not needing to add when the price will grow.
People still mail things? Kidding... sort of... it was like 68 cents last I asked. That was years ago though...
it is more than that. It might be over a buck for all I know.
Currently it's 82 cents, according to the USPS website.

Well, just looking it up like that ruins all the fun. He could have done that on his own lol. It could probably go up to 99 cents fairly silently but the shock value of it going past $1 would make it big national news if nothing else big was going on at the time
Our Exit fella is traditionally not in the habit of looking up facts.
@DryGermanGuy good to know.
@DryGermanGuy facts just get in the way
Maybe about $5 or $7 dollars depending on how much it weighs
It just went up to 82¢. Fortunately, I have hundreds of "forever stamps" that I bought years ago on-line for way, way less.
No but in the UK it's £1.80/$2.40 for a standard 1dmst class stamp
nope. I can't tell you the last time I mailed a letter.
It just recently went up to 82 cents.
Isn't it very expensive?
@OneNisa Well that isn't too bad. Especially considering how so many things are done online these days, that as a society we don't send as much mail.
Too much!
not erally because you can use it even if the price will increase!
It's.82 cents.
No i don't
