Why Valentines Day doesn't matter!

Why Valentines Day doesnt matter!

I have seen many posts this week about valentines day, women worried they won't get anything, men thinking it's just a day made to spoil women. I saw a post from an old friend of mine which i disagree with immensely it said "if he wanted to, he would" in regards to getting valentine gifts, that is well BS. Now I've never been interested in valentines day, I always thought it was a weird concept and I never thought it was important so i'm here to talk about why it doesn't matter.

1. Valentines day has become a rather "performative holiday" not all of us couples like flaunting our relationship on social media and don't feel the need to get praise from other people about our relationship.

2. Spontaneous affection is way more fun. Now in my current situation I'm unable to have flowers (my cat would destroy them) but my partner often surprises me with my favourite snacks which truthfully is much more exciting than flowers. I don't want to get a surprise gift on a day that every other girl is getting a surprise gift. That's not special.

3. The pressure behind the holiday has just gotten to be too much. Your relationship is judged on how many flowers you got, if you got jewellery or chocolates, if you had a romantic dinner or not. It's all very materialistic.

4. If you have been in a relationship a while there's just so many other important days to celebrate instead. This year will be my 7 year anniversary with my partner. Every year I'm amazed at how much I love him and guess what, he's NEVER gotten me a valentines gift.

5. It's just another day. Honestly over the past few years I've looked at the date and gone "oh it was valentines day last week" I don't think my boyfriend even knows what day it falls on.

6. When you're in a strong relationship you have conversations about this. If valentines day means something to either of you or is important by all means celebrate it. But honestly after a couple years it feels pointless. We show our love in so many other ways.

7. Sometimes its fun to not roll with the crowd. Stand out be different don't fall into the societal norms.

8. Having a valentine shouldn't be a priority. There are so many more important things to focus on.

Now if you celebrate or not, I hope you have a fantastic day either way!
