Why do you think it's hard for a guy to except a kind gesture and not make assumptions?

Well a Valentines card by its nature is romantic or signals romantic intentions, so most guys will assume romantic intent either seeking a relationship or hookup.

Other kind gestures are easier to accept without assuming romantic interest.
For example last year a female colleague who thought I was overworked, offered to be my acting assistant for a while to lighten my workload. That was a kind gesture and I didn't make assumptions.

Yeah I suppose. I give the people closest to me that are single a card to pop a smile on their face. This year there just happens to be a close male freind in the circle.

We are both single, but that scenario is highly unlikely lol

I wouldn't argue he's an attractive speciment and a lovely guy. But if something was going to happen, it would of by now. So just friends.

I've had "friends" of the oppo sex do that. i don't see them to this day
