Does anyone else hate celebrating Valentine's day?

Question

I feel like it's a made-up holiday to just take more money from us. Maybe I'm skeptical, but I'd rather just celebrate my loved ones all year round rather than just be forced to get chocolates/flowers or go out to dinner in a crowded restaurant on a specific day.

Thankfully, my wife is in the same camp as I am, but I know for guys they really get the short end of the stick on Valentines Day. So do you like celebrating it or not?

I don’t necessarily mind Valentines Day anymore. Hated it from age 8-30 due to all kinds of bad things happening between my parents and in my relationships on that day. Ditto every holiday except Halloween. A lot older now and have a wonderful husband who likes getting me things.🙄. Still not my favorite holiday, but that’s my PTSD talking. Would prefer a woodworking or car fix tool over dying flowers or some useless sparkly. I hate that women expect the guys to be the only one doing nice things and shelling out cash. Female equality means we treat others as we want to be treated and do as much for the man in our lives as he does for us, not this one-way femi-nazi b. s. that had been going on for years. The scary going on now with women and animal rights is a whole other rant. Gods, we are not supposed to be going backwards as a society and race. Regardless, Valentines is just a b. s, holiday made up by the jewelry industry to get people to cough for overpriced sparkles they don’t need.

Well i like flowers in general, I don't like too much spent. I do like to go out for a meal as like a date night but I don't like going out on valentines day because the restaurants are overcrowded, over priced and they are basically hurrying you to eat and get out and often you end up in a crap hole because you can't get a booking. I prefer valentines at home. This year I'm going to make a nice dinner, my sister in law is babysitting because her husband is working and I always babysit for her twice a week after her kids come back from school and so my partner and I will have a romantic evening watching a movie on netflix that we will only see the first 10 minutes of until we are in the bedroom. We are going to go out for a meal and maybe ice-skating or something for valentines just not on valentines if you know what i mean. Just avoid all that stress.

Can I just add that every single holiday that is celebrated has been overtaken by consumerism and greed. Nothing but high dollar garbage is celebrated. People get trampled to death the night of and/or the morning after a holiday that is suppose to celebrate a day of thanks. All to save a few bucks. Fuck all these holidays. You really want to be in a holiday spirit? Stop buying stuff. We can and will survive without it. Go dancing with your spouse. Go hug your parents. Go play catch with your kids. That’s what is really important. It’s not having new makeup from one of the Kardashians (I have no idea how to spell that.)

2 years ago I used this dreadful day to wear my heart on my sleeve and ask my the girl I was seeing to be my girlfriend.

She said yes.

I don't really look at it as a celebration I look at it as a moment in time where if you are with somebody you can give them something nice just to say thank you for putting up with all my crap this whole year and I thank you I appreciate you and I love you I look at it a whole different way because we get caught up every single day doing something and we might not say thank you as much as we should so I look at it as a day that I'm able to do that when I'm with somebody

Yes, all these holidays are just a scam/. Mothers Day is the biggest one. The restaurants are always packed and it makes me wonder what these people do the other 51 weeks of the year.

When I was single I used to, but then I start looking at Valentine's Day as a "treat yourself" day and I started to like it way more. Plus, I find the red and pink color scheme kind of cute. And all the candies and chocolates are not bad either. Especially if they're all half price the next day. Currently I have a lovely girlfriend, so that makes it even better. But yeah. Probably still not my most favorite holiday overall though, though I don't think it's bad.

I told my partner when we first got together that I didn't want valentine shit, I don't want things because he had to give/do them or so the stores can profit a bit more. (Not big on recieving birthday gifts either).
