~My thoughts on the struggle for beauty in today's society~

Society these days makes women feel like they are not good enough....we are not skinny enough not pretty enough....our hair is not the right length our skin is not the right color. Our boobs and bottoms are not the right size....we have a little too much "meat on our bones"....and so on...and so on...and so on....

Many women have low self esteem for many different reasons. We feel like WE have to be the ones to attract a mate. And if we fail we feel like it is our fault because we are not pretty enough or skinny enough. Having the perfect appearance has become way too important. Plastic surgery has become so common it's crazy!

Now while I have nothing against a woman wanting a nose job or breast implants or a lift or a little tuck(especially for those of us who have carried children)....I think there is a point where a woman should look at herself and ask ,is it really worth it? And am I doing this for myself or am I doing it because society tells me that this is the right way to look and to attract a mate I have to look this way?

While I do agree that women should keep themselves well groomed and healthy...I do not agree that they should turn themselves into something that they are not. Make-up is good .It can accentuate the beauty you already have or hide blemishes that you may not want to be seen....if applied correctly. Having the right style that suits your personality and your body is also a good thing...not only does it make the woman feel more attractive....but it also makes the man more likely to be attracted to the woman if the outfit is flattering on her.

Men have it tough too...(although not as tough as women in my opinion)a lot of women want men with a rock hard bod or with a really nice package. Some men DO worry about these things. Men struggle with weight issues and take pills to try and achieve society's idea of perfection. Men that can't gain weight or muscle mass take all types of concoctions to try and gain a six pack or bigger biceps. Some men are insecure with their "goodies" and will purchase products promising a result.

Some men do get implants in various parts of their bodies such as their bottom, chest and calves. This is where I feel sad....society as a whole has made it such a big deal for us to have to be perfect to attract a mate that we feel we have to take such drastic measures to make our outer appearance so important.

I do agree that changing your appearance to make yourself happier in your own skin is a positive thing. But if you keep feeling like you constantly have to change yourself because society says "this is what you are suppose to look like"...and "this is what is attractive"...then you are doing it for the wrong reasons.

I am also a big believer in what "is inside counts the most". While looks may attract the mate...only your true inner beauty will keep them there.

Wow, that was an amazing well written article. I agree 100% although it may be hard to accept yourself how you are, especially when going through high school when everyone is judging you, but in the long run it is worth it, I don't know how, but it is. learning to feel beautiful all on your own is an amazing accomplishment that I wish everyone could achieve. but inside is what really matters, is what god really judges us on. god doesn't care if we aren't skinny enough, our heart is all that matters. - More than a year ago
