I always see him staring at me. What should I do?

There's this boy in my class, and lately, I've noticed that he's always looking at me, & he smiles. At first he was just glancing, and I'd look away and smile (yes..look away and smile, not smile and look away). Now, he'll just sit there and smile at me, and I can see him from the corner of my eye. Does he expect me to look back at him the same way? What do you think I should do? I don't really know him. We only have one class together. I really don't want to go up to him first. I want him to come to me. How can I get him to do that. I guess if he just sits there and smiles at me, and doesn't make a move, I should be the one to do it and go to him though. He had a girlfriend, but I think that they recently broke up.

if I were to look at a girl and smile at her, I would really like her to smile back at me, sort of how the last duchess would flirt (robert browning "my last duchess" ) - not the sort of flirting we have today - but anyway,

he wants to know you like him, in fact, he knows you like him, but he needs assurance from your smiles and your flirt.

well I have to say that is not unusual it's a normal for guys and girls. most of the time the guys make the first move. but this question is a good one, I would say. I think that he does expect you to look at you in the same way. you just might have to make the first move, he may keep doing this and not say anything because he is too nervous. you should make small talk with him and be good friends with each other. you never know what kind of person he could be if you don't know him. just talk to him like you would anyone else.

Aww, lol, that sounds so cute. Why don't you try smiling before you look away next time? And going up and saying hi and introducing yourself doesn't have to be considered making the first move, it sends the right signals and leaves the next communication (i.e. getting to know you better/having a conversation, the important stuff :P ) to him.

You could always be blunt and ask him why he is staring but I don't think that is wise. Just ask him for help on homework or something trivial if you are nervous or just start out a conversation out of the blue.

haha this happened to me recently, I make him smile cause I smile at him, I'm pretty sure he knows I have a small crush on him. But smile back at him, believe it or not small smiles make people's days :]

well he could be just that kind of guy that doesn't make the first move. but you should blush and smile more when you see him staring. I don't know maybe you can make small talk, but still have him be the one who asks you out. please don't hate me for my honesty.

I agree with what others said, try smiling and then look away. That at least gives him the sign that you acknowledge him and maybe then that would strike up a conversation or at least make him a bit less nervous.

Well, instead of looking away and THEN smiling, try the reverse and give him a small smile THEN look away! It's flirting without saying any actual words. ;-)
