If a guy "doesn't" know your real name is it because he's not that into you?

Question

I was with my "friend" last night  whom I have been "seeing" since oct 08. We were talking bout names I said my middle name was rose he said katrina rose, I was shocked. My name is kathryn. He said he didn't know my real name because he always called me kat. I don't know if I should take this offensive or not!

I don't remember my first girlfriend's last name. I wouldn't have known her real formal "christian name" except I saw her signing something once. But to be fair, she never referred to herself by her full name, we never got super serious, and I do remember the first name and can remember that detail.

And, to be fair, we didn't see each other too often because we lived far away from each other.

October to March is a little far to go without remembering the full name, in my opinion, unless you don't see him much, or he's never gotten the chance to see your name. I suppose that it's up to you on if it's something you can forgive or not. If he doesn't remember other things about you, even after repeatedly telling him, then you definitely have a problem on your hands. If he can remember little details, but made a mistake on your name (one that he has hopefully corrected), then it might not be a big issue.

what an amazing blunder. If I where him I would just have just ranaway from you from pure embarrasment and would have moved out of the country.

I know that sounds harsh but that's how I would have felt. If he is a normal guy you really embrassed him and now he knows what his foot taste like. (as in putting your foot in your mouth).

you could have have softened the embarrasment by asking him "need some salt sprinkled on that foot?"

P.S. I am not blaming you for his faux pas but as much as a shock it was to you, you nearly killed him when you corrected him .

I would take it to offense.  I can see if it's only been a week but you guys have been dating for months.  If he did not take the time out to really pay attention to your name (which is the first part of info establish minus the middle) than he must not care for you too much.  My guy always has called me "B" but he knows my first name.  On the other hand if you have never told him your name than you have to let him slide on that, especially if  "kat" is how you introduced yourself and that is what your called 24/7...(does he know your last name?)

Maybe when he was first introduced to you he heard your name wrong and assume your name was Katrina all this time.  Since everbody calls you Kat, he would not have realized his mistake.  Its an awkward situation and I would feel kind of sad that somebody I have known since October got my name wrong, but he could have just heard your name wrong.

If it was someone I'd been "seeing" for 5 months, then I would be a little upset that he didn't know my real name.

But, hey, what can you do, eh?

It's happened.. and I'm pretty sure he won't make that mistake again!

he might know a lot of people and doesn't care about the names as much as the face. he recognizes faces better-I had a guy friend who was like this-he was really good at recognizing anyone's face but as for names-he really sucked lol

hmm it is kind of weird but I guess he doesn't know beacuse he was 150% sure that your name was katrina and never really bothered to check and I'm guessing everyone else calls you kat aswell so there was no way he could have found out...i know its a big deal for you but try to forget about it...

I'm not trying to sick up for him. Its could be just he isn't good with names. I have in my passed and still today mess up the most simple names an even had them written the right way in my phonebook. But, still mess up the name. It's seems like a easy mistake. I don't think ytou should take it offensive.

Dont take it the wrong way, since he always called you Kat.  It is like if you have a friend that is named DJ, you may never know his first name as long as you know him.

It's a minor offense, but I was surprised to read that you have been seeing him since October of last year and he still didn't know your proper name. Idk, that just struck me as odd.

I don't think you shoud take offense to that. like you said, he always called you by your nickname so there was really no reason for him to know or use your full name in the past. Don't worry about it:)
