Why do people wear their hats backwards?

The purpose of wearing a hat is too keep the sun out of your eyes. So what's the point in having it on if it's to keeping the sun out your eyes?

I think it's a fashion statement. Initially rappers started doing it and then it seemed to become a thing and everyone was.

Myself, I started doing it but my reason was the type of outdoor work I was in at the time. The wind would often catch the bill and blow my hat off so I started wearing it backwards. Then over time I just got used to it and it felt weird wearing it normally lol.
