How to know if you are bipolar?
Thanks!
I have Bipolar and to be classified as being Bipolar is very strict. I had to go through various tests and talks. And there are requirements. Often it includes having to have been hospitalized at least once. So if someone says they are Bipolar they had to have been classified by at least ONE psychiatrist. I had to even go for brain CAT scans.
Bipolar is rapid mood shifting. For a week you'll feel seriously depressed and suicidal for no apparent reason and the next you'll be completely high and inhibition free. It's very dangerous though. This is wear weakness resistance is diminished and you lose your values in heartbeat.. There's physical signs too. Sometimes you'll talk very fast, other times you'll have a very nervous tone of voice for no reason. Lack of sleep is also a clear sign. if you go through a period of say a week where you only need to sleep for 4 hours it can help classify bipolar. Lastly some other signs can be emotional outbursts and also if you experience a complete out of control moment where you feel like you're outside of your body. This is terrifying to be honest.
Bipolar cannot be cured and you have to take medication everyday for the rest of your life. You take mood stabilizers and sometimes get added anti-depressants thrown along. Therapy is also sometimes needed. I still need to get constant support from psychologists to keep me going. I also need regular psychiatrist checks.
Does if affect your life? heck yeah. It sucks. You never know quite how you will feel/react or just be like. Sometimes you'll feel so happy and then before you know it you're planning your suicide attempt. It's damaging and it's hard hard hard. You can most often identify if someone is Bipolar after knowing them well. Having bipolar also means I get emotional outbursts/ sometimes to things out of control/ get very nervous and get anxiety attacks frequently.
I hope I helped :)
God bless you :)
Thanks you <3
I'm in the middle of going through tests - cognitive and brain MRI to get a diagnosis and from everything I've learned of bipolar I do think that is my diagnosis... just have to see if the doctors agree! The highs don't have to be majorly high, they are called periods of 'mania' but there are different types. And the symptoms during the manic episodes are not necessarily things you can identify as at the time you think you're acting normally; with me I make grand plans, which often involve taking out huge loans (and these led me to have to become bankrupt they were so huge) and plan to go to the other side of teh world to live.
At the time, it seems totally normal and possible - yet then a while later (no telling how long) I'll end up so low I can't get out of bed in the morning (I'm currently in a depressive episode and want to hide from everyone and sleep all the time), and during these lows the whole big plans go out of the window, I lose money, lose face as I usually tell anyone and everyone what my plans are, and end up wondering what the hell is wrong with me. So manic episodes are not just bouncing off the walls, they are periods of lack of 'impulse control' and a feeling of being 'invincible' and like anything is possible, when in all reality it isn't!
It's a horrible thing to have!

It's really not that clear cut and it is kind of difficult to diagnose. You have periods of highs and lows..."mood swings." With medications and therapy, it can be managed.
I have high & lows & everybody does! But I'm not bipolar..so how is it different then?
These are really extreme highs and lows and without medication it gets really bad.
