Why do some people hate hunting and hunters?
Bring it on hippies lets hear your arguments
I don't hunt personally, but a lot of my friends and family do, and I was raised with hunting being basically a norm. In my family, it's a 'guy time' bonding ritual [though some women in my family do join in], and it's putting dinner on the table. Most people I know who are completely anti-hunting for any reason, are typically people who didn't grow up with 'hunting culture' being a very common thing. Maybe they haven't spent much time living outside of cities, or come from somewhere else that hunting is less common. They don't understand because it's a foreign concept to them and seems inhumane. But something they tend not to think about is overpopulation. I live in Oregon, most of which is heavily wooded and home to many, many deer and elk. What people don't realize is that the overpopulation of any one species in an area wreaks havoc on the whole ecosystem, it upsets the balance. Hunting helps whittle things back down to order, and feeds a lot more people than just the ones out doing the killing.
I completely disagree with hunting just for sport, or just for trophies. But if you're going to eat what you kill and don't torture the poor things, then I have no issue with that. That's what generations of my family have done forever and still do. They're not out to make the animal suffer, and go out of their way to ensure to the best of their abilities that the suffering is minimal. Some members of my family do have mounted deer/elk heads in their homes, antlers, etc. That's not unusual or disturbing to me, because I know they killed the animal themselves [as humanely as possible and within regulations], the animal fed them and likely myself and other members of my family, and I know it isn't just there to say 'look, I killed this'.
While I don't know if I could pull the trigger myself, and don't particularly like thinking about watching a beautiful animal die, I rather enjoy and look forward to hunting season every year. For me, it means good hearty meat on my table and in my freezer [and home-smoked salmon, when it comes to fishing, mmm]. It means happy memories from when I was a kid. I answered a question earlier about what my favorite kind of gravy is. I answered that I like deer/elk gravy, because it often went along with the breaded deer/elk steaks my grandma would fry up as part of breakfast. The taste is a good memory. I also have memories of my grandpa butchering a deer on the kitchen table when I was a kid, or walking down to the garage and seeing a deer hanging from its back legs from the rafters, skinned and draining into a bucket. I distinctly remember the smell. Not what most people would consider pleasant memories, lmao. =P But where and how I grew up, that was normal and it doesn't bother me.
My uncles [and my grandpa used to] also make some bomb-ass sausage and jerky at home. That's actually one thing I look forward to about Thanksgiving in my family every year, lol, the abundance of tasty deer meat goodies. =P And I usually get some steaks to take home with me and put in my freezer until I get a chance to cook em up.
i disagree with killing an animal for no other reason than sport, you don't need the meat you just want the thrill and maybe cheap out on paying at the super market.
if another species was dominant and hunted us for sport youd have a way different opinion on it
HOWEVER
if humans let all animals roam free in fields (im talking our cows, sheep etc) and only interacted with them to feed them and medically care for them or to shoo them indoors in winters and we got rid of slaughter houses id have no problem with them being shot instead as long as they were killed instantly.
Don't need the meat, hell one big buck will last me at least a year, and as far as going cheap on supermarket, ha when you get a deer processed it will cost you a pretty penny.
well it's killing of animals that people can't relate to. I would generally judge hunting more humane than modern meat production but I would find it easier to eat meat than to kill an animal. So I kinda get it for people who hunt for food, but hunting for sport I don't get at all. Why would you do that? In my eyes that's just sick. There is no other animal that hunts for sport
I also don't really get the trophy thing, Hanging dead animals onto your walls is just weird.
Because these animals have babies to protect and they feel pain as much as we do. It is cruel to just kill something for the fun of it and, to be honest, I believe that it is cruel to kill animals for food as well. If monkeys or some other such animal were a dominant species in comparison to us and started hunting us for sport how would you feel? I know for a fact that I would be utterly demoralised!
This the problem I have with people, some people think oh a deer has a baby and they need to protect it, not the case, if the mom dies either by predator or a car, and has a fawn, the other deer will take it , but you wanna talk about how cute and cuddly monkeys are hell chimps are cannibals, and even lions. Some animals do kill other animals for fun.
No animal kills another animal for fun and game other than humans. Other animals do it for either food or through instinct as a protection and being threatened. Humans are much more evolved than this and, to be honest, trying to compare this to other animals killing other animals for fun is ludicrous. Other animals don't understand then results of their actions to the extent that we do. Killing animals for game is completely inhumane and should be illegal across the world.
Once again you're wrong animals will kill other animals just to kill them, mountain lions will kill coyotes and leave them. Elephants will try and stop baby lions, male lions will kill cubs, same with bears. Chimps are cannibals, and sharks will kill sea birds and leave them.
Oh so is fishing inhumane in your eyes also?
As I've said, we are a civilised culture with a far higher intelligence level than other animals. It's disgusting to kill things just for fun. It's just arrogant to compare humans to other animals when we are clearly far superior to them. Fishing is fine if you are planning on using the fish for a good purpose, like food, or if you are fishing for fun and planning on returning the fish alive.
Why do you find it fun to put a companion on earth through pain and death for your own satisfaction?
When I shoot an animal I eat it. Venison is delicious, nothing like a truly organic meat.
That is something that I cannot argue against. If you kill to eat then I have very little problem, my problem is for the people who kill for fun.
I have no problem with hunting under the conditions that the animal isn't tortured for fun (there are some sickos who enjoy it) and you plan on using the carcass for food or something usefull just to kill it or to stuff it seems cruel and unnecessary to me. And for those who say killing animals for any reason is wrong please explain that to everysingle carnivore out there.

The only hunters I know make use of what they've shot, i.e. they slaughter the deer or whatever, and keep the meat or sell it/give it away to friends and family. I'm okay with that. The animals that are hunted like that are treated better than the ones at slaughter houses anyway.
But to hunt and shoot animals just for fun and without actually using the meat and fur for anything good is wrong. Like, if you can go out of your way to actually kill an animal, why not go out of your way to actually do something good with it afterwards?
I'm a vegetarian but that's not the reason I dislike it.
I'm fine with eating the meat and killing it in the wild rather than eating meat that was from a tortured animal.
The problem I have with a good deal of hunters/hunting is the culture that surrounds it. The way the hunters I've been acquainted with laugh and shoot and holler when they shoot an animal and how they brag about their accomplished killing. I dislike the animal's head being mounted on the wall and being treated as a trophy as well.
So hunting for food (and letting none go to waste)=ok with me
Hunting for laughs and trophies=not okay with me.
You can do those things if you want, I won't stop you, but I also won't like it. :)
Just my honest opinions.
Hunting is fine if it's for food or something useful but to look a animal in the eye and shoot it in the name of "fun" or for a trophy is sickening and disturbing. You wouldn't shoot a dog or cat for fun so why should it be acceptable to shoot other animals for fun. So no, I don't hate hunters who do it for the right reasons but I do hate hunters who abuse animals and in my eyes killing for fun is abusing animals.
Deer are pests. Literally, they have quite a few dangerous diseases and they are all over the place.
What I don't like is the hunting without licence and hunting of endangered species. Especially when the game isn't even eaten. Just as a sadistic game.
Agreed only take an animal that is legal and in season, and never shoot or try to shoot an endangered species.
A lot of people feel that animals deserve just as much love and respect as human beings. Because of that, they feel hunting animals is as barbaric as hunting humans. I am one of those people. I don't hate hunters or discriminate against them, but I definitely disagree with what they do, I am appalled that someone would enjoy killing another living creature.
Most places I lived deer are overpopulated. I see no issue with hunting and respecting the animal by using it for food. I never have but I personally could not shoot them. I am friends with many deer. I could shoot fowl but most likely no other animal except possibly a possum.
I think hunting is more humane then slaughter farms. Although you shouldn't kill more then you can eat and nothing should go to waste. The kill should also be done in a quick and most painless way possible.
Trollin, trollin, trollin... :-)
Animals I raise or kill to eat live as good a life as I can arrange. They die as quickly and painlessly, with as little fear as I can arrange. I do way better than farms or the wild.
I don't but why do you care? Your freezer is stocked right?
It will be soon when I get another deer this season, have you ever had venison it is delicious
because it is wrong legally and morally to kill innocent lives be it human, flora or fauna
huh?
No I'mnot bvegan but I wasreferr ing to hunting as a pastime
So it's wrong when a hunter shoots to eat, one bullet, and it's over, but it is OK when a predator be a wolf, coyote, lion, grab onto a deer and rip at it's flesh it while it is still alive as they take it down and continue to eat it while it is still living? Think about it, that is nature, but damn.
It's survival of the fittestI gguess we can't help it we have to kill to eat, survive but to kill for pleasure or because you want a new fur rug etc is wrong
It's like being gay, as long as it doesn't involve me, do what you want...it's just that animal lovers might not feel the same way about hunters and hunting
well I'm an animal lover but I know it sounds hypocritical because I do eat meat, but I just don't like to be the one to instigate harm against an animal
People who are not vegan who call hunters inhumane have got to be the dumbest humans on the planet.
I know damn hippies, hunters are actually trying to save wildlife and conserve land and the animals, yet these stupid peta groups try and shut everything down.
Ignorance and naivete, that's all it is.
To each their own. My dad, brothers and (believe it or not) my niece hunt. Nothing better than southern fried deer steak with mash potatoes and gravy. Anyways, some people just don't understand the culture.
Why do you even ask it? You don't want to hear a negative answer anyways.
I can understand vegans concerns, but I can't understand people who eat meat who hate hunters. Haha those are the ones that are laughable.
Damn right! Freedom is on the March.
Because hunting usually involves guns.
that or a bow and arrow, why do you also hate guns? Why is that?
I don't hate guns
