Problems with the pill?

Do girls out there have problems when they're on the pill? Like does your mood change often or do you get headaches and stomachaches?
I'm worried because I'd like to start taking the pill but I'm not sure if it's good for me. I'd appreciate some advice.

My girlfriend takes the pill religiously, and usually I use a condom, sometimes not. We've done it once, but is using the pill and vaginal spermicide pretty much just as safe compared to a condom? Again - she's very careful about taking the pill. Thanks!
