I met this guy on a dating site a full year ago. We never had sex and we went on a total of two dates.
(The second date, I went to his place and we smoked weed. I had an edible that ended up being too strong for me and I actually blacked out and had a few panic attacks.
As embarrassing as that was, believe it or not, he was still into me and wanted to see me again.)

Shortly after that, I left the state for my own personal reasons (this had been decided before meeting him), and he made a point to keep in touch with me. I am moving back now and he still texts me and apparently hasn't really been with anyone else (so he says). I would have expected him to move on or start dating someone else and forget all about me but he hasn't.

But what leads me to believe that he just wants me for sex is that, during the span of my absence, the only reason he would text me is to tell me he was thinking about me sexually. There was one time we talked (texted) about politics but it was short-lived because I got distracted. This is pretty much the only time I can remember him being interested in talking about something other than sex. I have asked him about work but he has very little interest in talking about himself. He also never asks about what I'm doing with my life or shows much interest. Mind you, I usually don't text him first, and I know that texting is not a good indicator of human interpersonal interaction, but we've never talked on the phone before due to the casualty of our previous encounters so we never established calling as a precedent. Now he's been texting me asking when I'll be back.

Do you think he has waited all this time for me just to have sex with me? He is a confident guy and probably wouldn't have to try too terribly hard to get another woman. I just can't imagine a guy waiting on a woman for a year whom he had only gone on two dates with, just to have sex with her.

X and Y meet in university while on exchange. They like each other physically and shortly after they met they hook up after a party. The liking being mutual, they keep hooking up casually throughout the semester, without intention of something more as at the end of the semester both will go back to their home countries, at the opposite sides of the world.

X and Y however get to know each other more and more and like each other a lot. Sex is great and affection starts to grow, but the awareness that it can’t be something more due to imminent separation is there.

As they part, they tell each other it would have been great if things could have gone on, but they can’t. In spite of this, the two don’t cut communication: they start writing to each other regularly (weekly/daily), Skyping, sexting, and the terms are very affectionate. Both ask the other to visit them. In particular, Y insistently asks X to visit. After 1.5 years of keeping in touch regularly like this, with many declarations of affection and also attempts at ending things coming from X and not accepted by Y, X finally has the money to fly to the other side of the world and visits Y during 3 weeks.

Y treats X not like an old friend but like a SO, introduces X to friends and family, acts extremely sweetly and caringly. The two discuss about how they shall continue. Y stresses he/she wants their story to continue, X admits being deeply in love. They shall see each other again 6 months later.

A month later, Y stops answering X’s messages and calls. Finally, X says things Are over for him/her. Y answers he/she thought they never stood a chance and is now dating someone else.

Did X legitimately assume Y was serious about them, was he/she led on, or did he/she just imagine things?
