I recently met a girl on a dating app and we went on two dates that were great, then a few days later she ended things (never official), even though she said she was ok many times she found out she wasn't fully over her ex. When we talked about that she said let's try to be friends until she gets things figured out and I agreed at the time, but about a month later I am struggling being just a friend to her. We met on a dating app so I've been flirty in text messages and phone calls on the app and when we exchanged numbers, on the dates we held hands/kissed and I feel like we were very close to going official. To suddenly stop the flirty texts or knowing I can't hold her hand or kiss her when we meet up in person has basically led me to drop all contact with her and decline seeing her in person. If I wait long enough maybe I will come around to be just a friend but I'm not sure. This is my experience and we weren't even official, don't know how you would go about this with an ex, but perhaps in time you can be!

My ex and I are not friends and don't speak, but conceivably we could have a successful friendship.

We dated when we were 15 and only for 7 months and we never kissed or did anything physical so it's not like we "have a history" or anything.

We're both now married (to separate people, obviously) and infinitely more mature than we were at 15. So... in theory, I think we could be friends.

It is. If it didn't work out between the two as lovers, doesn't mean they're bad people to each other. Sometimes break ups take place due to mutual understanding and both are able to see that they're better off as friends.

Yes, I'm friends with several of my exes, as well as their husbands. Just because a relationship didn't work out doesn't mean you suddenly become enemies.

Not really. For example, I personally could not be friends with my ex spouse because it was a very toxic and abusive relationship. But I could be friends with my ex boyfriend, because it was a good relationship and ended cordially.
