Is "last hookup" really that common? Like, people who broke up having one last hook up before moving on to get over each other?

I remember reading few articles about it back in 2017 but recently my friend told me how she hooked up with her ex's, 3 of them, to get over them so that she can move on with her fiancé, soon to be husband.

How common is it? And does it really works? Does hooking up with your ex for one last time helps you to move on in life?

I did it with an ex before and it did work for us.
The mechanism by which this worked, is it reduced our previous connection into something purely pragmatic and sexual and ultimately self-serving for both of us.

But it wasn't just "the last hookup", the sex was very different.
We agreed that it was just going to be sex and nothing more, which meant that we treated each other very differently from before.

Without getting into much detail, she basically told me to have sex with her like I would with a "whore"- not observing each other's boundaries, not caring if something you do or say will have any implications the way it would if you were in a relationship, et cetera.

Like a hook up/one night stand, just pump and dump and not care what they think about you afterwards.

Although, I should note that even though this did dissolve most of our mutual affection, it rapidly devolved into a 9 month long friends with benefits, because we found that incident really hot.

So not sure if it's a good idea for you.

I don't see that having sex "one more time" would make it easier to move on from a relationship. It sounds like an excuse to indulge horniness and ignore good judgment.
