Why do you think my ex finally apologized after 3 years and why did he act as if I owed him a different response?

He hurt me very badly and never apologized until a few days ago. It hurt to talk to him and give him the satisfaction of getting any conversation at all, but then I felt better after a while. Like I couldn’t stress about the feelings he put me through anymore and the apology-though half assed and probably with an ulterior motive-helped me realize I was still okay after everything he did and that he acknowledged that he couldn’t stop me from being okay even with the emotional scars he inflicted felt freeing for me. Instantly I wanted to give more of myself to my current relationships and felt no more anger towards my ex. Anyway, Why do you think it took so long for him to apologize?

Sounds like a douche, just leave it alone you did good. He was probably planning on getting something more out of you and then got pissed off when you didn't entertain him

He probably hoped to gain something from you, people like that don't apologize to mend bridges, they do it to benefit themselves.
