I can tell my boyfriend wants to break up but wants me to do it. It’s clear he has lost interest in me and I gave him the okay if he wants to break up. He’s been blaming me for his lost of interest by saying I’m not doing enough or I’m not giving him enough attention. He doesn’t want to be the one to end it and is creating scenarios to put me in the position to be the one to break us up. I understand I can leave but why does it hurt him to just be like hey I don’t want to be together? Why?

The answer seems pretty clear to me. He is obviously dissatisfied with the current relationship and your level of effort to make the it better, but he is giving you the opportunity to make it better. He is gauging your commitment and willingness to improve.

If you choose to break up with him, then he has his answer.

If you don't break up with him but don't work harder at the relationship, then he will eventually have his answer too.

If you stay with him and instead work harder at being a better partner, then he has a different answer, and it's the one I suspect he is hoping for.

Just be aware that whatever you do you will be sending a strong message to him about what HE should do. The ball is in your court, so decide whether you think you care about him enough to revive the relationship and make him want to stay with you.

It doesn't matter why HE doesn't do it. You know he doesn't want to be the bad guy.

The real question is, if you know he wants to go WHY ARE YOU STAYING? Are you both simply lazy? Why are either of you dragging this out?

You both should be moving on to being single, recovering from the relationship and moving on. Don't ask about him. Look at YOUR inaction.
