Breakups are so tough especially if it didn't end civil. My best advice is do what he's asking of you and leave him be which can be a lot more beneficial than it seems. If you want him back (which it seems like you might) leaving him alone will give him time to miss you and best case scenario he comes back. If you don't want him back and you're just bothering him, from personal experience, leave him be. It isn't worth it, if y'all broke up you broke up for a reason remember that.
