Why do guys ghost instead of breaking up?

I had a feeling this guy was pulling away from me and to keep from getting my feelings hurt I let him know that if he wants to end things it'll be okay and I'll understand. He said no that wasn't the case and to never ask him that again. He ghosted me shortly after that for two weeks later i was still texting him. So then he tells me that its over between us. Why didn't he tell me that instead of leaving me hanging for two weeks?

Because its not a black/white absolute , there is a whole area of grey , just leave things be for a little while , cool down a bit , see what panns out.

Not a big deal , to completely " break up " , that's an absolute , life is not simple.
