Why do guys ghost?

I dated a guy twice and was totally attracted to him. After the second meeting, he texted that he really enjoyed it but never messaged back afterward. I can't get him out of my head and struggle to get over him, even if I did not even get to know him and find that totally stupid myself. But I just can't forget him. Why would he say that he liked it and then never got back?
