Yes I have, and often went on a road trip or got the hell out of Dodge. I know I am probably going to be no use to anyone at work, so I would book some time off and go for a road trip to somewhere new or somewhere I haven't been for awhile.
It lets me get some time alone to work through things and the change of scenery helps, especially if you went to a lot of locations together around the city or town you live in that would just rehash things.
It is going to take time. What helps; do things you personally enjoy doing (like a hobby, movies, going out...). Just enjoy the free time, and get used to doing things by yourself again.
If you have to think about your ex, try to focus on the things you enjoyed less; try to get a "good to be rid of him" association with his name.
Yes I have and the only thing I can say is time heals all wounds. It's going to take a lot of time for you to get over him but in time you will.
