Why do some exes contact you after being in no contact?

I had an ex contact me after a month after not being in no contact. Should I respond or block them?

Not sure.. I once contacted a guy 6 months after.. basically when I stopped crying everyday because I missed him in my life and thought I could handle having him back in it..
But he was a dick because he wouldn't block me, but he never replied to the text.. so I deleted him and never contacted him again.

They are trying to see if you will still contact back even though they have ghosted. It’s basically a way to find out if you still are interested
