Do you keep the gifts your ex gave you, after it is over?

Got inspiration for this question as I was glancing over an immersion watch an ex had gifted me while we were dating. Not as fancy as the ones I usually wear, but I like it for its compactness and kept it over the years.

I mean, there's no reason to throw away an useful gift even if we broke up. My wife once enquired about it and was fine with it.

I think that unless they are extremely sentimental gifts, it's silly to throw them away or want our partner to throw them away because they were gifted during a past relationship.

I have a camel hair jacket that was given to me by a girlfriend in December, 2007. It is the most comfortable jacket I have ever owned, and I still wear it on occasions. She wouldn't want it back. Also, I did some plumbing work at her condo and spent about $200 on parts that I paid with no reimbursement from her. That was about the price of the jacket at that time.

If they’re useful gifts, then yes. When people give me gifts, I don’t usually connect that gift to that person, I just enjoy the gift for what it is. I’ve only ever had one ex gift me anything for my birthday, years ago now. He got me a UE boom speaker and a purse. I threw the purse out last year because it broke, but I still have the UE boom speaker because there’s nothing wrong with it and it’s very useful. I don’t think of my ex when I use it.

I don't know, my ex was from over 20 years ago. I suppose I would box everything up and donate it?

I don't make it a point to throw them out. I don't make a strong association with an object and it's source. If it's useful or attractive I keep it.
