Do some people stay with a cheater for weeks before dumping them? If so why?

Like one of my friends stayed with a guy who cheated on her and didn't dump him till 6 months later. Is this normal?

We were not official yet so I try not to consider it cheating but we agreed to be exclusive during the time and he broke that. Sometimes I feel like an idiot sticking around and yes its been 6 months. Had he been physical with the girls, I would not have stayed but I tried to overlook it because it was some online stuff that he did. Still it is not okay and he knows I wouldn’t stay if it happened again, physical or not
