Would you ever take the blame for a spouse for a crime that could land them in prison for years?

Preemptive this did not happen to me. It happened to someone in my home town.

A lady got drunk and chose to go driving. Some kind of emergency. She wrecked, killing the other driver. It was 3 blocks from her husband's home. The first person she called was him, he recorded the call. He arrived on scene before the police. I'm not clear on the details but he took the fall for her, and ended up getting charged with DUI resulting in death, 16 year sentence. Later on, she tried to screw her husband over while he was in prison. So he made sure the truth came out and he ended up getting released, and she got thrown in prison for the same charges including perjury.

I love my wife with all my heart, but I don't think I could do what he did, take the fall for her.

The best part is that he confessed about what she did and her ass was thrown in jail. The thing that made me angry the most was that she tried to stab him in the back while he paid the price for her mistake. His idiocy made him see the true color of that bitch.

Happy ending for that at least. It also goes to show short the female memory can be. It wasn’t good enough for her to have someone else take the fall. She literally owes her entire life to him. Nah she wanted more. She probably was trying to get his money (assets, property, retirement savings, etc) while he was in jail. She probably didn’t want to work (she already sounds extremely unreliable) and/or wanted to run with some other man.

The thing she was probably already exhibiting huge red flags before the fatal accident happened. Most responsible people are much more careful about alcohol and driving. That probably wasn’t her first mishap. He knew about it this crap too and didn’t do anything.

Anyway this would be a tough call. If my wife was a legitimately a really good person and more importantly we had kids I might consider it. But I don’t know if I could do this otherwise.

My dad said it best to me when prompted with this question years ago, and I quote:

If your mom committed a crime so heinous that there is enough evidence to put her away for years, this is NOT the woman I married. The woman I married, isn't out there killing people or doing drugs or being a danger to others. I'm not going to jail for someone "I don't even know anymore." As a father I have an obligation to forever and always protect my kids, and me going to jail and leaving my kids with a mother who is dangerous, violent, or needs serious mental help, does a disservice to my kids and who I am as a man."

Taking the fall for someone, protecting someone from the consequences of their crimes/failures is such a stupid thing to do.

You hear about it on several occasions, like when parents protects their child from facing consequences of their crimes or morally wrong mistakes.

No I'm not the kind of person who lives a lifestyle where crimes easily happen and I don't want a partner who's gonna do that either so if they do something like this it's like a breach of trust. Also it's stupid af in general to take someone elses prison sentence and also men get longer sentences than women so he fucked himself big time. I don't know what he was thinking. I don't know this is major simp behavior in 2024. 100 years ago this might be an honorable thing to do but today it's just stupidity in my opinion. Now he has a criminal record because he was part of decieving the police as well no? Now his whole career might be derailed because of this. And all for a woman who clearly didn't value or appreciate the sacrifice he was making nearly enough.
