Was it a justified reason to break up?

Hi guys and girls..

So today I broke up with my boyfriend even though I still love him. The thing is that, we've been constantly fighting for past couple of months over his constant need for talking to other girls online. There's this app -Tandem and recently I found out that he uses that to find women who speak Russian..( he's obsessed with the language and the people) .. I guess it's not bad to use that app? But in my head, I was hurt about the fact that he was trying to seek emotional connection through this app..

Long story short, I begged him to please not use it anymore, or if he feels that he cannot be without it.. maybe it's best if he lets me go. He promised me that he didn't talk to any girls or used that app.

But today morning, my friend who's using it too found him and ended up texting him.. he immediately responded and started talking to her ( asking her about her interests, likes dislikes etc)

I couldn't bear it.. when she told me. It was more about the fact that he promised me he wouldn't do anything to hurt me, but he ended up doing the exact same thing...

So I broke up with him ( in anger and hurt) and blocked him everywhere..

I know it's for the best, cause I suppose we are toxic to each other.. but what do you think? Am I an idiot for reacting that way?

Yes... because a relationship doesn't work without trust & loyalty. And not only that but when you are not engaged or married it takes VERY little to justify breaking up. In fact you probably should have broken up with him long ago.

You obviously think it's a good reason to break up with him, which is much more important than anything a random person on GaG can (and should) tell you. I support your decision.

Your head which was, in fact, your heart, informed you well. You were competing with his obsession, it's a battle you cannot win. Also, It's a problem he cannot overcome with promises, or anything morality. This is not how internal psychology works, else the world would be much, much simpler :/

This has been a reaction to months and months of piling up resentment due to the fact that my ex couldn't even give me the bare minimum in our relationship, we were together for 2 years. He started doing this half year into our relationship, I just kept quiet and tolerating. When I voiced my concern, he just sushed me, calling me paranoid and toxic..
I kept calm, hoping he'd change someday , stayed by his side and always supported him. I gave him a 1000 chances to stay loyal to us.. but he just kept not giving a damn, and just did what he wanted..
If you push someone over to the extent of their limit.. isn't it eventual that someday they might snap? That's what happened with us
