What do I do if I want to break up with a suicidal boyfriend?

I don't want to sound heartless but it's taking a toll on me and sometimes I think of breaking up with him but i also know it could effect him more. has anyone ever gone through this?

Oh man, that's really tough. I can understand why you'd wanna break up if it's been weighing on you so much, but dealing with his mental health issues on top of that sounds super stressful. The last thing you'd want is for anything bad to happen to him after.

Maybe the best thing is to talk to him really gently and make it more about you needing space for your own well-being, instead of blaming him or anything. And then see if any of his friends or family could check on him more closely after, so he's not totally alone. You could also suggest he see a therapist if he isn't already.

It's really good of you to care so much about how it would affect him. But you also gotta take care of yourself, and being in a draining relationship can make things worse over time. Just go slow with it, reassure him it's not his fault, and see if his support system can step up. I know it won't be easy, but in the long run it might be healthier for both of you. You've gotta do what's right for your own mental health too, ya know? I hope he understands and you both get the help you need. Let me know if you need anything else.

If the relationship cannot be salvaged, then you contact his parents, you advise them of your intention and you also tell them of your concern for a suicide attempt, and you ask for their help in making sure that he remains safe after you break up with him. His parents will respect you for approaching them with your concerns.

I have. It is one of the most fucked up things someone can do to you. I broke up, but I called his father informing him of the situation.

It took me some time to realize within me that he was not my responsibility. I don't deny the possibility that he might have felt that way, but I am certain that he was emotionally manipulating me too in the process.
Not sure whether it was consciously or subconsciously done and I don't care anymore.

Leave him with his own problems , nor you or anyone else will l fixed them , unless he wants be fixed , don't burden yourself with dark minded, pessimistic or suicidal mind , keep distance from them , your boyfriend is like Titanic, dragging you down , you can try fix him if you want this , but it will take time and no guarantee of success, if your loosing interest on him , loosing feelings towards him , just walk away , save yourself and your time , you move on , he will move on , don't stress about it

Do it in a public place or through a phone call with someone there with you. And preferably someone there with him. Don't buy into any of his threats. Don't even acknowledge them. He'll feed off of it.
