Why does my ex boyfriend call me honey?

We dated for 5 years and broke up like 6 weeks ago.

Lately, we've been seeing each other, but nothing romantic. He even said last week he doesn't want to give me "wrong ideas."

Yet, he asks me for help, invites me out, and texts me often. Today, we spent some time together and he called me "honey" and "babe" like he used to.

I'm wondering, is this habit or is he subtly trying to manipulate me back? It's very confusing and I'm getting mixed messages.
