I noticed you have this highly negative opinion of shy/reclusive people. What have they done to you?
I don't have a negative opinion of them. This is just an example of certain people being far more sensitive about a particular topic, when all I'm really pointing out is the unbelievable lack of esteem, image, and confidence in today's youth. It's obvious and depressing.
I'm inherently shy myself but the thing is, I grew up. Part of maturity is social interaction, which too many people absorbed in their screens just aren't getting and thus, we end up with 40-year-olds with the social skills of teenagers.
But how exactly it is depressing to you since other people's lack of social skills doesn't affect you directly?
I mean, I'd just leave them be. I myself prefer people to just leave me be. I mean, yeah I have social anxiety, but I don't go around announcing it to everyone. If people don't pay attention to me then that is just super.
It affects everyone. The idea that we can live in this isolated bubble as adults has always been wrong, despite what our screens tell us. Sitting in a restaurant and seeing a bunch of robots staring at screens, when they're supposed to be TALKING TO EACH OTHER, should frighten anyone.
People mumble, they can't look you in the eye, you can sense they're nervous or even afraid just being around other humans... none of that is good and yes, it affects everyone. This "social anxiety" stuff is 100 percent environmental and can be readily cured by INTERACTING on a routine basis. That's the only prescription you or anyone else will ever need.
Four times you mentioned how it affect everyone but you didn't state why and how.
I just did. You're being purposely obtuse. This article article is an example of exactly that; those with poor social skills are resulting in the greatly increased difficulty in terms of interpersonal relationships. This in turn results in feelings of frustration, depression, anxiety, and even anger and desperation, which means millions of individuals are nowhere near as mentally stable as they should be. Ask any mental health professional and maybe you'll understand further why this is such a big problem. For everyone.
It's in the professional world as well. Employers suddenly have to deal with this spike in things like social anxiety and overall social inability, which, for many jobs, simply is unacceptable. They have degrees in certain disciplines but as they spent their formative years, even in college, doing little else but stare at a screen and NOT interacting, they're useless in the work place. Another serious impact on everything and everyone.
Then don't hire those individuals. Natural selection (in the workplace) will either weed them out or force them to adapt. I don't go out of my way to interact with peers, being by myself instead most of the time. but I have no problems with interacting with anyone at work.
That's not an answer. This is an epidemic. Employers are finding it increasingly difficult to find socially competent people, to the point where they can't hire ANYONE in many instances. And the overall erosion of charm and civility certainly has a profoundly negative impact on society as a whole.
Not that much of an issue where I come from.
Either way, how exactly do you intend to force people to socialize?
It shouldn't be "forced." It should just happen naturally because humans are SUPPOSED to be social beings. That's what we are at our core.
But you can certainly help people interact and become more social, and it starts from a young age. One way is to keep kids away from screens and get them the hell outside. That'd be a start.

Probably not. But it's a message mental health professionals and doctors need to be trying to instill in young parents, so our future isn't quite so bleak.
Yup! I see exactly why that picture scares the hell out of you! That's why I simply refuse to respond to text messages from the people who I work with. I tell them to either call me and talk to me or don't bother me at all...
interesting. But what really ruined us is the electronic dog leash that's attached to us. If you dont like someone you meet, you have your friend text you or show up to the date and be like "something is wrong with your ___"
I, for one, think I would've been a sniveling coward regardless of internet dating.
This is so honest and I can relate myself.
Sadly the dynamics of online dating has disenfranchised men, 80/20 rule 80% of women online dating only rate 20% of men average or good looking. my example 1st messages are 1 in 20 in my example
I personally think the digital age, social media and media and celebrity pressure is causing the whole dating game to slowly implode.
I fear for future generations, it is just so messed up right now
