How do you know if you like someone vs the just liking the attention you are getting from them?

Do you enjoy giving them the same amount of attention? Do you think of them all day long? Do you feel butterflies in your stomach whenever you're around them? Do you remember stupid details they told you? If yes, you're into them.

Depends on how centered your attention is to them and if you mind not being around them. if I really like someone I'm very focused on them, want their attention, not others and actively try to keep in touch

They give you attention so obviously they're into you. You just have to think if you like to give them that same level of attention. If not, you prolly don't really like them.
