+1 yI was in the Marine Corps and I'm very prideful of it. The Marine Corps wasn't established to please the public. We were trained to win wars and accomplish the mission at any costs. War isn't supposed to glamorized and training to go to war isn't to be glamorized either.
The corps isn't what you see on the commercials. It's not about looking pretty in dress blue uniforms. The general public looks at the Marine Corps in that way because that's the intention. Reality is that it's brutal. If the vast majority of the general public knew about what actually goes on in the Marine Corps then they probably wouldn't like us. It's rough and only an arrogant cocky son of a bitch would be able to get through it. Marine Corps loves that shit. They embrace that culture.
Marines don't care if they come off as cocky. The Marine Corps likes young men that are aggressive and a little crazy. Those are the types of men that are suited to go fight a war. These are the types of young men don't really give a shit out about your opinion or anyone else's that aren't relevant to the mission. All that matters to them is the mission. An enlistment becomes a part of you and completely embodies you. Those Marines that you're judging don't give a shit. You're wasting your breath.
I'll tag in another Marine. @USMCHUNGCSO You want to add anything on this?614 Reply- +1 y
People like to bitch and complain about how they are protect by the blanket of freedom the Marine Corps does for them. The hard truth is that unless you have served, unless you are going to serve your thoughts and opinions are about as useful as a sponge in the desert is. You think we're cocky, you think we're erogant but yet your to self centered to give up your life for others. You want to judge how we are, how we act? How about you stop your bitching, stop being a crybaby snowflake, stop being entitled for once in your life and thing of others. The Marines don't put themselves above others, instead we put ourselves Infront of others, to protect them. Even when you complain about how we are we still did it. Not cause we have to, but cause we want to. Cause it's the right thing to do. I earned my title, I wanted the right to say and do what I want, I earned the right to call you out. I earned everything I have cause I stepped up, cause I said I will die for your entitled ass
- +1 y
Fucking oorah.

I will not sit here and be told how I'm wrong by a person that has never walked in my shoes. Thats like them telling me how to provide that freedom the take for granted. Never going to happen

@USMCHUNGCSO
Does modest pride exist in the military? Because the Australian military is much less upbeat. They focus more on the past and the history. They are very laid back. Most Australians never get thanked for their service. They don't think they are the best of the best or brag. They don't need to brag at all when most people respect and recognise them for who they are without putting them on a pedestal. Yes, it takes guts to get in the military. I respect those who are in. But it doesn't automatically or necessarily make you a better person than anyone else in society. - +1 y
Surprisingly, this is MY opinion. A civilian's opinion. If you don't give a shit, why feel the need to be triggered by judgement or some random person online? I wanted to know why they are cocky. I have yet to whine or bitch about it. It is just my observation.
- +1 y
And just one question. Clash of egos. Are Marines or Army rangers better?
- +1 y
We're as you say cocky because we are bad asses and we do what most never could. Also the phrase triggered. Makes me laugh when civilians use it haha. But trust me I'm not even close to being triggered. The reason I commented was my bro tagged me in this. So I figured I'd give you my thoughts. As for do we know modest pride. Maybe some do. But why shouldn't we be proud of what we have done and do
- +1 y
Well marines are the best out of boot camp. Army rangers are spec ops. Your trying to compare regular military and spec ops.
- +1 y
@USMCHUNGCSO
I respect both of your opinions. I know military women and men are selfless and brave. But why do they feel the need to brag when they already get enough respect (at least in the US)? Do you guys know Mbest11x? He is quite cocky and acts "alpha" lmao. And like a womanizer. I thought he is how a typical soldier would act. He said army rangers were the best of the best. Since Marines say often they're the best of the best I was just wondering which of them are better or stronger. Cause Marines often say they're better than soldiers. - +1 y
Marines are better then army. And you really think service members are treated fair and nice in the USA? Maybe you should come with me for a day. Youd be shocked.
- +1 y
@USMCHUNGCSO
Thank you both for the straightforward, honest and concise input. Also, Chico_brah, so sorry for your loss. But I am sure your grandfather would be very proud of you. Marines are extremely tough. I've watched the movie Jarheads and Full Metal Jacket. Deployment conditions can be hell-like. No average person can survive in those conditions. It takes more than guts to be a Marine. It also takes a lot of physical skill. I now have a lot of respect for those men and women who have served and they do deserve to be a little cocky. They are brave and respectable people but that does not automatically qualify them as being above anybody else. Do you both like or know Mbest11x?
My boyfriend is a Marine. He always brags about his job, sing cadences in the streets and is pretty cocky. He even compared himself to my ex boyfriend who was a soldier and said he was nothing compared to himself. - +1 y
I understand now. As a student civvie pilot, I see a lot of cocky pilots around. But they don't deal with half the shit that military pilots do. All you gotta do is fly in a straight line and stay calm. You don't have to actively avoid other aircraft and live in fear for every second your tach timer measures getting your ass hit.
- +1 y
Was going to send you message. It's all good though.. Go ahead decline my follow request. Nah I'm joking but I was going to send you a message.

@USMCHUNGCSO Tbh, I respect marines, my uncle served 20 years. However, outside of service, some marines are just plain rude. I train mixed martial arts, and have had several marines come to train over the years. It's like they come in acting like they are still in the marine core or something, with a confidence and cockiness to almost try to scare. I usually laugh it off though. And than also usually I completely and utterly fuck the marines up. I know we have "rules to not gouge eyes and bite," but, tbh, they do come in to cocky and I have actually humbled some marines after match ups. To the point their cockimess immediately went away after our first match. Some marines that served 4 years n never saw action, think they are the baddest of bad, and try to bring it to the civilian world, where there are people that, well, are even more capable in certain aspects than the marine themselves. Not saying it ain't brave to be marine, but, sometimes they just get cocky to people they don't know for no reason. I've experienced that. And I don't think signing your life is a good excuse to be a duche to civilians, because you signed up for that and chose that.

Plus when you go through all this you've earned the right to be a little cocky.
This is a scene from Jarhead but this is also real training they do in the US army at least.

Hell Week
Gassing you in a gas chamber without a mask and with tear gas and all other sorts of fun toys.
Live fire exercises
Training with over a 100lbs of equipment on you.
Scene from Full Metal Jacket but this is a toned down version of what real marines go through the actor playing the drill Sargent was a drill Sargent in real life.
And so much more.
They earned the right to be a little cocky, they go through hell only to be sent straight into it so you don't have to.26 Reply- +1 y
So are Marines better or army rangers? Do you know Mbest11x or Mat Best? He seems super cocky and conceited in most of his videos. He portrays himself as an alpha male or womanizer.
- +1 y
Haha o yes I know Mbest11x he's awesome.
Army Rangers is one of of the toughest units in the army but so are the marines they both pretty equal in my mind but I'm a bit baised since I had a marine in the family haha.
Yes he' super cocky in his videos but that's kind of on purpose, you have to remember those videos are made for entertainment purposes but also to pump up people about the military and the company he works for black rifle coffee. - +1 y
So both army rangers and Marines say they are the best of the best. Too bad they won't be content sharing the same title lol. It's the clash of the egos. I wish I could see more modest pride from military members. But it seems that modest pride only exists in the Australian military. I am an Australian civilian pilot dating in a relationship with a US Marine. He could not stop bragging about his job or laugh at the soldiers. I have dated a couple of Marines before and they all acted similar. That's why I have made this observation. I do know Marines go through so much more stress than civilian pilots do, and most pilots can be cocky. But all the Marines I have spoken to were more cockier than even the cockiest civilian pilot.
- +1 y
Well if I'm being honest every branch of the military and every unit say's their the best, it causes friendly rivalry between the branches and units and makes them work harder to maintain that image.
Nah there's tons of modest pride military members to I belong to a military family full of em and I know a lot of them to. - +1 y
Ah I see. It's like the aircraft mechanics who thinks that we're always breaking their stuff. We do have friendly rivarly between pilots and mechanics. It causes mechanics to become more critical and for pilots to become more cautious. Funny how it all boils down to their ego. Are you in the military?

Only in cultures that glorify the military.
Veterans are treated like gods in America, therefore, they act like that. Bearing in mind most veterans actually don't, it's just an explanation as to why some do.
This doesn't happen in the UK because no one thinks its "amazing" that you got shot by someone that you were initially shooting at.23 Reply- +1 y
That's exactly the same in Australia. I admire modest pride. I feel the Australian and English soldiers already feel respected or recognised and does not feel the need to have their egos stroked or placed high in a pedestal. Like they are secure with themselves.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yMilitary women are less cocky and more flirty while on campaign. It's called "cabul cute" where a western female soldier/journalist/aid worker in a conflict zone who was maybe of average or below attractive back home is outnumbered my young fit and attractive males that haven't had sex in months and are super horny so the below average woman can pick and choose guys that wouldn't be intrested back home and as many as they want. Do basically if you were a 4/10 back home you rise up to a 6/10 depending guys to girls ratio. Military girls on a tour of duty are the ultimate girls gone wild. It's called hypergamy.
Military guys are cocky because they are deployed all the time and may not get back, the cocky attitude is a sure fire way of getting laid that night.

Glad to find that male soldiers find female soldiers attractive. I thought they are only attracted to Dependas. I heard that there is an entire battalion after a single female soldier 😂 female soldiers are hot.
Opinion Owner+1 yLol u missed the point. Yes some are hot
+1 yIt is the people in the military who ain't shit that think they are. Navy Seals dont brag, Airforce pararescue do not brag. Do you know why? Because they are the best at what they do. Military personnel who are only mediocre will brag because they want to feel cool.
17 Reply- +1 y
Are army rangers or Marines better? Seems head to head and their egos clash.
- +1 y
Army rangers are special forces, Marines are just marines (basic infantry) Marines have their own special forces called Marine Raiders and other in the MARSOC units. MARSOC is better in my opinion that Green Berets (army). Seals beat everyone by far
- +1 y
Some of the hardest Marines I knew were the most hypermasculine and cocky dudes you'd ever see. They were decorated. They came back from deployment and would wreak havoc on boots (new guys). They bragged about what they did out there with photo proof. They were some badass dudes that you would never try to fuck with. You respected them and if they respected you they wouldn't fuck with you. I saw these types first hand. My grandfather who I never met was on seal team one. He was killed by a landmind in Vietnam. I got to read his diary when I was 19 years old and I legit almost teared up an half hour in because I could see so much of my self in him and the struggles he went through in the military. I wish I could of met him. The navy seals are some craziest and cockiest motherfuckers you could ever meet.
- +1 y
Tbh I think you're just a 19 year old kid that doesn't really know what he's talking about at all. Let me explain the difference between Marines and Seals. Marine corps is primary comprised of teenagers. Very young branch. The Marine Corps has always been like that. Who do you think is going to act more composed in front of civilians? 27 Year old navy seal of a 19 year old Marine? Marine Corps realized this and they embrace this hyper masculine culture because it benefits the Marine Corps and their mission.
You only see what you are supposed to see. It's like that for a reason. There are no generic personalities intertwined with a strong and caliber Marine or Navy Seal. They come from all walks of life. Some are humbled and some are the most ruthless savage dudes you could ever meet. That doesn't make them mediocre at what they do. - +1 y
Now I click your profile and see your hair is within ad regulation. I don't mean this as an insult but are you a pog? I just don't get how we had completely different experiences.
- +1 y
I have not been in the military. My opinion is just based on some individuals i have met who are current marines (some friends) and a few navy seals i have met (retired seals my dad knew). Your point makes sense about the age difference of a 19 year old marine and a 27 year old seal. I get that. But even with that said The marines that are in their teenage years, should also know how to have self control and not brag.
- +1 y
And what does the length of my hair have to do with anything. I just like punk rock music and short hair. The fact that you assumed that i was in the military based on my haircut is laughable. It is like the people who ask "are you in the military" when i wear a camo boonie from time to time. Maybe that's just my style.
Pride. The camaraderie amongst military personnel creates an egotistical environment through a very narrow perspective.
There's no time for most to get a top-down view of their circumstances; the politics that go into war or the economics. It's like being in an echo chamber where only a few really break out of the norm because it's the only thing they've ever known and it takes a certain will to do it, but it's easy to get comfortable in an ego.20 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yNo that's not right. My father is an ex army officer, I remember the very first thing he taught me was right n wrong and many things later on with time span. You know what, a good thing about time is that is changes, when you just think and time changes one second ahead us. military guys are really cool, with present of mind and equipped with lot more qualities as in the training they goes through the hell, lot's of learning classes and physical training. I can tell you in deep but my bad typing lol.

+1 yYea there is a percentage of military women who just kind of complain. They don't do anything and cry sexism and how men hate them oh booo hoo and how great they are.
But then there are also plenty of women who as you said hardly brag at all like ever and the same with the men.
There are many like you said and a number that aren't that way at all00 Reply

Yeah, I'd ditch a Marine for a sailor anytime. They are ao laidback and calm. Not super hypermasculine or overly enthusiastic in general.
Opinion Owner+1 yHaha I'm a Navy Sailor, and that's nice to hear. It's a difference in the cultures. Army people tend to be full of themselves, and think respect, and asskissing are the same thing. But that's from my perspective, they'd be horrified that I, as an officer would drink with my enlisted sailors
- +1 y
That's so awesome! I have always admired sailors. I have dated a few naval officers and they are awesome. Modest, laidback, kind and funny. They are not so uptight and they don't do as much weird things together. Plus their white uniforms look pretty cool. Better than a Marine's :D
Opinion Owner+1 yWithin most Navies it is understood that we all put one pant leg on at a time. I'm not better than anyone because of my job, it's a bloody job, and people need to get over the idea that military people are any different. We wear a cool white uniform, and sail around, but that doesn't make us any better than a teacher, a lawyer, or a Machinist
Anonymous(36-45)+1 ythey're supposedly "men" because they were "turned in to one through force". when, my dad was turned in to a mn, and he was never part of the army. he's been married 25+, happily. unemployed, but, still married
