Is it Common for Coworkers to start dating?

Question

This is my first job, Not sure if it’s common

ALL of my coworkers are coupling up.
We were all just working, keeping our distance at first, & now everyone is dating someone.

A few girls I thought were cute are now dating some guy at the job.
We’re all young, our ages range from
18 - 24.

Not sure if it’s because we’re young
Maybe it’s because of quarantine?
Or does this actually happen?

It is fairly common for people who work closely together to begin dating. One reason is that they begin getting to know each other through conversations over time. They work side by side, laughing and making it through the day together. Whereas, if you just walk up to a girl or guy and hit on them, there is no history or connection, and more often than not, it the attempt fails. You should also know that there are inherent risk to dating in the work place. If for some reason, it doesn't work out and there are bad feelings, it can cause conflict at work.

These days you would be foolish to date someone at work. One complaint to HR and you could be fired. It doesn't matter if you didn't do anything wrong. It's enough if a female wants you to get fired. Her word is worth more than yours. Of course, the less money you make and/or the fewer obligations you have the less you'll worry about losing your job.

And no I don't see people dating at work much in high tech jobs (even 20s and 30s). Not officially.

Even if they aren't open about it. I find it very common. I'm a girls girl and my female coworkers often confide in me. I think it's a matter of convenience and chemistry (when you all have a helpful/friendly dynamic) lust can come into play very easily.

I personally have a rule against it because it often goes sideways and I like to leave work at the timeclock. I also would hate to have to juggle relationship stuff on top of my work assignment.

Most relationships that occur naturally are going to occur in the workplace. Its where you spend the most time, and you already know you have something in common with the other people that work there. You are forced into close quarters with these people and can't help but to get to know them. So naturally its easy to know if you and a coworker are compatible enough to try dating.

I can tell you from experience that getting involved with a coworker is baaaaad juju. If you want to date do it with someone who does not work with you.

Dating at work can lead to all kinds of issues- a sexual harassment complaint being just one of them. If you break up with her you will have to see her everyday. There might be someone else interested in her and that person could become jealous - and a spiteful coworker is the worst thing you can imagine. They can find ways to sabotage you , to set you up for failure. Not to mention dating always brings rumors into play. None of this is good.

Avoid all the drama and bullshit that comes with messing around at work.

Don't shit where you eat.

It used to be how the majority of people met their spouses, but now in the gynocentric, #MeToo, ultra-PC, era it ks far to dangerous to date a person at work, especially if you give a shit about your job. One wrong or misinterpreted conversation can cause aan to be fired and for HR to permanently brand him as a "sexual harassment liability" which will end his career. Even casual conversation with women at work is dangerous.

I left my last career field as my next big step was going to be managing a large group of predominantly millennial women who were hair-triggered to complain about men. No thanks.

I've done that often enough to say that it's not a very good idea to do so. Since, If you end up having a major falling out with each other... you're going to be forced to see them, interact and work together. It really can suck! Y'all will intentionally disagree with each other and even at times try and sabotage each other... just because!

I would say it depends , I personally don’t like dating people you work with because it creates issues in the future. It’s like that only saying “don’t shit where you eat”.

I worked in different companies and usually I’m surrounded by women but I never date anyone from my job to avoid headaches and drama.

Anytime you have people spending time with one another the possibility for them coupling up is present. It’s frowned upon in mainstream society because of the fact if anything goes wrong it might effect the work environment. All I’d say if anything just be careful and have an understanding before going any further with one of your coworkers so you two don’t end up coming in between each other’s livelihood just in case it doesn’t work.

It’s probably just the job your working allows that type of atmosphere. Not to say it’s condoned, but just that it’s much easier. I wouldn’t do it though because if it don’t work out then all of you are still going to have to work with each other. Afterward they might decide to date another person with in that same work group lol it’s just drama waiting to happen.

Finding a partner at work used to be common, but Feminism has ruined that.
Any display of interest can result in a sexual harassment complaint, followed by unemployment.
I have seen “good morning” used as the basis for a workplace sexual harassment complaint.
There is also the toxic aftermath after a relationship ends.
False allegations by spiteful females are to be expected.
Women have #MeToo-ed themselves out of one of the major sources of potential husbands.

It's not just a work thing, you'll find it in any situation where people spend a lot of time together.

You are talking, relating and in close quarters a lot. It's not surprising that some of those people working together like that find they are attracted to their work mates in some way, particularly at a time like this when they may not be seeing much of other people.

I saw a lot of it during my time in the Scouts.

In my experience yes. I work at a large hospital. It’s not like greys and people don’t have sex all over the hospital (although I have heard some stories) but I’ve seen nurses date other nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics, firefighters, police officers, x ray techs, even nursing assistants.

Depends a lot on the company (right now where I work it's 26 guys and three women - all three married). Where I used to work it was very common, and not discouraged by management since the top guy had met his wife there. In an office of about 100 people there were at least 5 couples that met there and married, and a lot of dating besides that. And it was across age ranges.

It's very common.

Me personally, I dated a girl from my very first job for 6 years, but we only worked together for 8 months.

I hooked up with 2 co-workers at one temp job

It's been 5 years since that, but I asked out a co-worker last year and went on a date with one this year.

At a restaurant I worked at, lots of them would just have casual sex or date cause they practically lived there.

Seems like it. But I noticed more of a cheaters thing. One guy is dating another guy's sister, who doesn't work there anymore. Yet he's probably doing a lot of things with a married woman at work.. And he fucks around a lot while with a girlfriend. I'll never get how he keeps getting away with it.. And it seems like a lot have dated or fucked, or cheated.

It’s quite common yes. You spend so much time there that there’s always a good chance you’ll connect with someone.
My parents met at work. There were also a few couples at my work (I also dated someone at work. Sucks when you breakup)

Dating co-workers is worst mistake you can do. There is the reason why in government jobs there is total ban on it, usually.

For short, when you brake up it will be a lot of mess or when you date you will not work you just be together, not doing job.

And if she decides to make sexuall harassment claim, you will lose that job and she just be the victim...

Depends on a few factors. I personally, have always gone by this saying: Do not s$&@ where you eat.  If something goes wrong, your job could be in jeopardy. Who has time for that?
