This new guy I’m talking too has had quite the lad type life before getting to know me he always moved quite quickly with them and obviously things got intense quite quickly.

He said to me that he wants to take things slow with me and he’s already told his family about me and we’ve been talking 3 days I’ve known him about 2 years before we got talking properly. What does this mean?

You didn't share much information on this, so it's hard to tell what his reasons might be for deciding to take things slowly. I wouldn't get myself worked out due to this. His probably just want you guys to go slowly, rushing things mostly end up in a bad situation. You knew him for two years and you just got talking, taking things to more than just knowing each other, relax and unfold things. Too much worries spoils things sometimes.

It sounds like he's saying he wants to take things slow because he knows going too fast is bad, but his actions seem to show he's still pushing things too quickly.
He's saying one thing but doing another.
