He asked me out for coffee what does that mean?

A few weeks ago I met a 39 year old physician. We comes from the same country of origin as my parents but we’re both living and working here in the U. S. He was the first to reach out to me but I’d ignore him then he’d come back a couple of days later and I’d ignore him again. Our conversations have always been respectful and they’re mainly about him asking about me, telling me I’m beautiful, my life, my studies and my job. I’m 24 soon to be 25. Recently, he asked me out for coffee. I was wondering why a guy would choose coffee? Also, can something serious actually come from this?

Going for a coffee is informal and gives you a chance to talk without the pressure of it being a full on date to see if you have anything in common with eachother. If things don't go so well, then there isn't an awkward evening to get through or an embarrassing scene where one of you has to call the date off, as with a coffee it's likely to only be a hours or so. But from there you can both decide if you would like to see eachother again for a more formal date.

What are the chances he only wants to play me? A while back a woman his age said to stay away because he’d only want to play me.

Well there's always a chance, but at least a coffee is a good safe meeting with him, hopefully you can gage his intentions. But if you are worried about his reputation then maybe you shouldn't even entertain the idea, that being said how much do you believe the woman that said it and what does she know about him, is she legitimate in saying this to you or is she only jealous?

She was rude about it. She said that he’d only play me because of my age and that he’s only looking to sleep with me. She said men like that only settle down with women his age that have a similar educational level/profession.

She might have a point but also she might just be bitter about something.

That’d be hilarious 😂 but no, he’s the real thing. I met him at his workplace and no I wasn’t his patient.

To your question, "why would a guy choose coffee" -- because guys have learned that it's not worth investing time & money into random women these days. You start out with a very inexpensive meeting. In the old days guys were buying women nice meals on the 1st date. Those days are done.

If a guy asks you out for coffee it’s a generous offer to get to know you and see where things can go. It’s a formal invitation why would you refuse it?

Why coffee? I mean, I just found it odd how he didn’t say drinks or dinner... I don’t drink alcohol or anything but I just found it odd how he chose coffee.

Did you tell him you like coffee? A coffee date is inexpensive and a decent environment? Where you expecting more? 5 star restaurant? A bottle of wine for $150 ?
