A part of American history.
Something for "woke", historically ignorant, liberal SJWs to cry about.

It reminds me of the Southern states; pride of place; the Civil War; the Dukes of Hazzard; the Beverly Hillbillies; the Darling family on the Andy Griffith Show; Nascar; fried chicken and grits; Cajun food. Yes, it also reminds me of slave plantations and the Blue Dog Democrats who institutionalized segregation; chain gangs; lynchings; the KKK.

All in all, though, it doesn't upset me. I despise Black Lives Matter, the 1619 Project, and self loathing, white, latte liberal racists more.

The USA flag has much more blood on it and I don't hate it. So why would I be bothered by the flag of the South? I'm capable of looking at history in depth and seeing all the nuance. People with shallow understanding see everything in black and white, good and evil.

The rebel flag/The southern flag. This is the Confederate flag that was flown when slaves we're a thing. The rebel flag was actually just a battle flag and really nothing more. It'd be flown on some special occasions but it was mostly meant to represent Southern pride.

Now it's up to anyone who reads this comment to decide weather or not the Battle flag they used is racist. To some degree you can compare it to the Iron cross. It was a thing that the Germans in WW2 ruined the image of and today in the United states it's considered racist. Although that point might be considered moot because the Confederates created this one for the soul purpose of having a battle flag. But at the same time the Iron cross shows the meaning of certain symbols can change so why not the Confederate flag?

As said I have no opinion I just like history 🤷‍♂️

Just a flag. I think the American flag has just as much hate behind it. The US Army slaughtered the American Indian and their motto was The only good Indian is a dead Indian. There are many instances of the army swooping down on a peaceful Indian village and slaughtering men, women, and children. They stole the Indian's land and put them in Reservations where they could not survive without Government help. The crooked Indian agents sold the food allotted to the Indians and instead gave them rancid meat and smallpox infected blankets in order to bump them off. So please, no more shit about the Confederate flag as the American flag is no better as blacks were relegated to the back of busses and could not use a white bathroom or eat in a white man's cafe.

Obviously, it was the flag of the Confederacy of States.
I think of the Cornerstone Address.
I think of how southern states believed they had the God given right and duty to supply the world with goods that could only be made through slave labor. (Read their articles of secession BEFORE you tell me it was about "states rights")
I think of how today it's being used as a white supremacist rallying symbol, and how somehow the words "cultural heritage" became attached to it.

Rebellious self-sufficient people who don't like the government and don't care if this flag hurts your feelings. I'm from North Carolina and down there people proudly fly the Confederate flag and it's not a symbol of racism to us it's a symbol of rebellion. And if you look into the true history of our past not what we're told in school and understand the true reasons behind the civil war and what each side was fighting for in represented and you would probably fly also

I understand it was the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. In modern times it has been stolen by racists and used as a symbol of their misguided ideals.

The Nazis stole a symbol (swastika) of the Navajo Nation, their good luck "whirling log" once painstakingly woven into Navajo blankets and other art and also used on Arizona road signs. The symbol disappeared from their arts.

In the same way we need to retire this flag from public use and retire it to museums.

Mississippi since it was the state flag of Mississippi. The Second Confederate Navy Jack, 1863–1865. Also the Battle Flag of the Army of Tennessee, and similar to The Second Confederate Navy Jack, in use from 1863 until 1865, although with the darker blue field of the Army's battle flag.

My fathers side of the family.
On his mothers side, they were in the deep south, Alabama and Mississippi, on his fathers die, they were from the north.
From what historical records the family had, the south side of the family lost around 80 members and the north lost about 20 members during the course of the war.
